Perch in North end of lake?

I finally have a weekend I can fish everyday. I plan on spending early mornings in the north channel looking for walleye but want to get the kids out for some perch. Does anyone have any suggestions? I keep the boat in New Baltimore and with young kids short rides tend to work best. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

7/29/2010 Afternoon Report

Took the nephew and myself out again today. We worked an area over just west of green buoy 27 this afternoon. Trolled the usual holographic harness (gold was hot) on 2oz BB's then switched to the 1.5oz BB's when the wind/waves subsided. 17fow @1.7mph for the most part. Ended the day with 10 walleye and 26 perch (8" and up) in the cooler. Caught numerous dink perch and junk fish as well. All in all it was a great weekday to be on the pond.

http://www.lakestclair.net/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=78827
http://www.lakestclair.net/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=78828
http://www.lakestclair.net/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=78829
http://www.lakestclair.net/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=78830
http://www.lakestclair.net/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=78831

Had another great event this year last weekend. We had 60 boats sign up. Weather was rough on Sat so we only had 30 or so boats fish and 21 weigh fish. There was a 28lb 10oz fish weighed Biggest salmon I ever remeber seeing. We raised $9600 to send a young man with non hodgkins lymphoma to Alaska on a brown bear hunt. Pulled supersports arm to join me. Here's a link to some pictures.

Dreamweaver challenge facebook page

Oct Musky?

May just try the late season Musky this year. I hear so much about the fall musky that I have the itch bad. When is a good time to go out? Whats the bait of choice? ANd what area can you pick the up in? Is it like the spring areas or is it like the summer where you have to go way out? figured I may as well start trying to plan this thing now.

19 steel, 1 brown, 4 eyes, and countless sheephead. Fished 8am-2pm out of Erieau on Gone Fishings boat with walleyemad and Tim. We really went dead around noon and were struggling for that 20th fish when the MDNR boarded our boat and checked our licenses and dumped our cooler out to count fish. That is when the 20th hit a 10 color led core on the board. I kicked a few fish out of the way and we finished our limit. Thanks to our lucky charm the MDNR. We were in 60+ FOW but from the sounds of the radio the fish were hitting all over. Spoon colors were all over the board as well and we got fish on the planers, riggers, dipseys, and lead core. Awesome weather, company, captain, and fishing. Man did we mark a ton of bait, what a fishery. The picture of Tim shows the brown we caught. Apparently quite rare there.

Lake Ona in White Lake Michigan

I went to my sister-in-laws yesterday morning to fish with her boyfriend in the morning. Fished from 8:45 - 12:30. My goal was to get a monster bass that broke my line last week. We both saw it in the water and it was the biggest bass we had ever seen in that lake. Alas, we did not catch it, but I caught this nice 17+ incher. Not sure what the exact weight was. My cheapo scale said it was 2 lbs. It felt a bit heavier than that. We caught a few like this and an absolute ton of smaller ones. Flukes were the bait of choice and we went through 4 full bags of them.

Am I getting older (duh, yes)? The joints in my hand and wrist are absolutely killing me this morning. Am I holding my gear the wrong way? How do you folks deal with it?

Peace,
Ted

7/27 MUSKY TROLLING WITH JQUINTANO78

Went out with JQ tuesday evening for my sons birthday from 6PM-dark. Fished the canadian side of lake went 2 for 6 on the skis, both mid-high 30's" fish & my son got to bring both of them in. We had a fish on in couple minutes after the first line was in the water, didnt even get the second line in the water. Then my son caught the bonus a 26" walleye. Half hour before dark we hooked into a nice fish, it didnt take long to relized this was a really nice fish, after 15 minutes the fish had 300' of line out and we knew it was at least a 30lb fish, the fish started to tire and the 11 year old kid started to gain some line on the fish, it was just about dark when the fish finally got close to the boat, we saw the tail splashing and knew it was a huge fish then it came boat size and thats when JQ yelled its a sturgeon. Fished turned out to be 62" long and was not fouled hooked. Had a great time and have nothing but praise for JQ. If you're looking to learn the art of musky trolling on this great lake look him up finsgrinscharters@gmail.com, U will not be dissapointed. Thanx again JQ. Lookin forward to next time.

salmon fishing

Fished manistee last weekend as I do most every weekend. Boated 36 kings. Those of you who are in to salmon fishing the fishing is as good as ever. Lake Mi. is the warmest in history and the thermcline is generally deep. Fishing deep is somewhat trickier than when fish are biting 50 to 60 down. Last weekend was by best count this year. The fish have begun to move in along the coast. Any port along that side of the state will be good from now through the end of Sept. Presently the best has been 90 ft. down over 180 fow. I see a few reports that say the fishing is not good and just want to let those of you who want to head to the west side the fishing is as good as ever. Truthfully the less that come the better as it reduces traffic out on the big lake. Nothing has changed fishing as good as ever.

LSC Report 7-27-10 Evening

Went out about 6pm 7-27-10 out of Crocker Launch (lots of floating weeds built up at launch). Alot more wind than I thought and was a little rough for my 15ft. aluminum boat so stayed fairly close. Casted (horrible time trying to fish with all the floating weeds) 10 fow for a while lost one smallie half way to the boat. Nothing else for awhile so decided to troll in to the launch. I put out a perch color rapala taildancer and was getting frustrated with constantly cleaning all the weeds from line finally got the lure running for a short time and got a 22in. walleye just after 8pm. Would have liked to stay out after that but had to go in. Sorry for bad pic no flash on cell phone camera.

Stony Creek Catfish 7-17-10

My sons and I had a good fishing day at Stony Creek if you love catfish. We caught 6 catfish from 22" to 29". I was trying to tell him that mine was 30" and he said no way dad it is only 29" What fun it was seeing him real in those fish. We were using light weight fishing gear. It took about 5 to 10 minutes per fish. He caught three and I caught 3. We were trying to get my other son one also but he got skunked. He did manage a handfull of pan fish. They were biting on almost everything. We hooked them on a live perch, a dead gills insides, nightcrawler and 7 " yum yums. We fished the surface and bottom near the dam. Two of the fish almost pulled our poles out of the boat. Wow! Action was about 8am to 9:30 then as quickly as it started if was over. None of us will ever forget that morning!
