My ex lived there about to years ago. I found they was alot of hardcore drugs in that area and quite a few kids who thought they was gangsters. The water front homes seem to be nice. But there would be no way i would ever raise a kid there

Are we talking about the same Algonac??! Granted, when I was in high school, 20+ years ago, I was shocked when a classmate claimed in class to the teacher that he could supply any drug named within 10 minutes of walking out the door. But...this is still the place where most people don't even bother locking their doors...

Yeap unless they just got to know the wrong people there. There was even one woman there by the dq that was letting run aways stay at her house and she would try and have sex with them. They was like 15-16 yrs old

I've been here in Clay Twp for 22 years. We moved here after getting tired of packing & unpacking cars every weekend, driving to & from our cottage near Hell, MI, & driving around in circles on a small inland lake. At 1st the commute for me was 45 mins, but when I got home, I got in the boat, turned the key & left.

I love boating here, I can hang in the bay at the end of the street or go as far as I want to. There is always something going on or somewhere to go, so many bays & great anchoring spots. Nothing beats boating around the flats or stopping at the local haunts for a burger & a beer by boat. In the summer, I rarely drive a car after I get home, I go everywhere by boat.

In the winter there's snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, ice fishing. It's like being up north.

I raised a daughter here. There are drugs in any area, if your looking for them. My daughter & her friends didn't have enough time for that nonsense. They were always out waterskiing, kneeboarding, fishing, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, etc. They had a great time growing up in this beautiful area! I should have been so lucky!

I'd move there in a minute, but I too could not handle the commute to work. My job is in Dearborn, and yes, I know I-94 is right there...its a long ride in the summer, but try it in January. I think not. But someday....we'll see.

If you think it's any different anywhere else, you're living in fantasy-land.

I totally agree. I live in Orion Township and in my subdivision we've had a major drug bust plus a few break-ins in the neighborhood. I'd have no reservation about moving to Algonac. As a matter of fact, I did buy a house in Clay Township on the water and I hope to be in there by summer. I'm looking forward to it!

Do you have her address handy, could use a little extra sweet, next time I go buy a Blizzard!! sunglass2.gif

I grew up in Algonac, and went to school here. Education was not a problem, if you were willing to learn. College prep classes offered today, are far better than 20 years ago.

I lived away during college, but always kept in contact and visited often. Returned back, after college, and now live on the lake. My kids are raised here now, and I would not trade it for anything.

My lot is only 75 x 105, but the back yard is over 28 miles across & 25 miles wide.

I think you definetly were too close to the wrong crowd. Every town has issues, and that is no different here.

Live where you want, and work where you have to!!

BTW - the fishing, duck hunting, deer hunting, boating and trapping all is very poor. Do not move here ever. biggrin.gif
