I have a Benjamin 392 for the occasional rat that cruises through the yard to dine under my bird feeder. I like that it's a pump, so I can adjust the velocity, whereas the spring guns are all or nothing.

I've read that .177 is for feathers, .22 for fur.

Definitely well built compared to what you see in the discount store. Wood stock. Shoots fine over open sights, though Williams makes a peep sight that I'd like to get. Rifled brass barrel for accuracy (which means pellets only) and good for one-shot, humane kills in that price range. You obviously can get rifles that shoot at higher fps, but they're more expensive.

Like I've said B4 in varmint threads, Remington's standard .22 short works fine here, & make no more noise than a "ladyfinger" firecracker.

I'd be very surprised if your neighbors heard a thing, all boxed up with their A/C.......

Good Luck

Mike
