The Nautical Coast Cleanup - one of the signs of spring in St. Clair Shores - returns May 19.

During the 18 years of the all-volunteer event, more than 576 tons of debris has been removed from the shoreline of Lake St. Clair.

This year organizers, which include The St. Clair Shores Waterfront Environmental Committee, We Are Here Foundation, Jefferson Yacht Club, St. Clair Shores Senior Activity Center and Advanced Aquatics Diving are targeting:

Homeowners can also volunteer to clear the waterfront area in their subdivision

"Volunteers are what made this event the success it has been in the past and it is the volunteers who will make this event a success again this year," Waterfront Environmental Committee Chairman Joe St. John wrote in an email.

Registration is at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Jefferson Yacht Club.

For more information visit the Waterfront Environmental Committee website or call 586-779-8777.
