Just saw that the ferry is shutting down at 5:00 because of heavy ice. They're going to try and start running again at 7:00AM tomorrow.

There can't be that much ice even left in Lake Huron!!! I think the lakes were only like 5% covered a couple weeks ago.

The drone pic I saw in the same FB sight referenced above did show a heavy ice flow down the NC.

It did get very heavy. We were headed to Schoolhouse Grille Friday but turned around at the ferry. We didn't want to risk having to spend the night there.

I was by the ferry yesterday and yes, there was a considerable amount of brash ice and some good sized bergie bits in the North Channel. I was surprised to see they were running yesterday. Lots of cars parked on the mainland lot, so I expected a shutdown was possible. Not as much ice in the main river as far as issues for something larger than a ferry but I haven't seen the Walpole Island ferry the past couple times I've been in town. SAMUEL RISLEY was down here yesterday, so she may have been flushing the channels. Soo Locks open Saturday, so the big ships are starting to move for the 2017 season.

This was from a couple days ago at Algonac State Park.
