I knew they were tearing it done for a parking lot for the Russel Island Ferry. I didn't know they were doing it so soon.

These were taken by a friend of mine T.J. Check out the original structure within.

Most of the nautical stuff is in side the Restaurant at Algonac Harbour Club including the salad bar shaped like a ship. The last picture is the Algonac Harbour Club.

Wow, I remember that place..... I grew up for the first 11 years of my life in Algonac on Lee St, then we moved closer to town on Orchard St.....I used to go fishing behind Henry's....then the employees would come chase us out of there. laugh.gif

I heard it had a tremendous amount of structure damage from a hole in the sea wall or something...any truth to that??

Work to tear down an iconic landmark in Algonac began Monday
Much of the structure of Henry's on the River at 408 St. Clair River Drive will be gone today and the rest of the work is expected to be done by the end of the week, said Dave Burgess, president of Raymond Demolition in Marysville.

The restaurant opened in 1937 out of a gasoline station with a lunchroom. By the time it closed in early 1998, it was a full restaurant that had expanded through four additions to the building.

New owners reopened the restaurant in June 1998 as Down Riggers on the River. That restaurant closed in October 2001 after a break in a water main damaged the St. Clair River sea wall. It was thought the break undermined the building's structure, but former owner Cheryl Sherman said a 2007 inspection determined the building to be sound.

Sherman sold the building to the Russell Island Property Association in March 2010. The property association plans to use the site as a landing for the Russell Island ferry as well as a parking lot.

On a positive note, the Russell Island residents have been in quite a battle for parking for a long time. This will probably cure that problem and stop the fight with City Hall and the police about this.

I was inside a few years ago doing a video inventory of the fixtures and decorations. It seemed pretty solid to me. I am no structural engineer though.

I don't have the photos but here are some screen grabs from the video. Almost all of the decorations, light fixtures, ships wheels, etc... are in the Algonac Harbour Restaurant.

I am sure they were cleaned out a long time ago since that place has been shut down for quite some time.

As I said almost all of them have been in Algonac Harbour Club's restaurant for a few years. Including the salad bar.

These are from the inside of their restaurant. You can see a lot of them. Stop by with your boat or car sometime to see all of them.

How sweet would it be to have gotten some of that old nautical stuff from there? That salad bar has been in AHC Restaurant for while now, has it not?

Left Tuesday morning saw a couple endloaders in the parking lot. Came home today and Henry's is definitely gone.

That didn't take long!
