I had dinghyed to Metro today with Eagle1. We got back to MacRay about 10:30 pm. I had just mentioned as we pulled up to the swim platform that fish flies would be out soon.

I go down to the cabin to get a flashlight to check if I had got everything off the dinghy. What did I see? ohmy.gif Fish Flies!!!!
I went to the bath house to take a shower and they were stacked about 2-3" ohmy.gif ohmy.gif deep in front of the door.

They are out early again this year. I hope they don't last for a month!!!!

I thought they were called "Mayflies" because they showed up in May. Seeing how cold and rainy it was, I wasn't surprised they were delayed. I hope it stays real hot for a couple weeks and they all hatch and get it over with before July 4th!!

Even though they are called May flies, we typically see them late June.

I'm hoping this doesn't mean that we have a month of them.

I thought a bumper crop of fish flies meant the lake ecosystem was healthy.

We had a few on our boat Sunday morning but I only saw one this morning when I left for work.. If they get too bad the wife and I will move back home from the boat until they are almost gone..

Yea, I've heard it does mean that, but you'd think they could let us know by just having lots of them for a couple days, preferably on windy and rainy ones, then just become fishfood.

Wonder if they could be genetically altered to hatch in March to feed all the fish until the weeds start growing??

Correct...it is a good indicator of the health of the lake.

Dont forget that it depends on the wind whether we get them on our shore (or further inland) or not. Pray for west winds if you dont want them around.

Not only are the fishflies a'comin, but the mosquitos seem to have multiplied 10 fold with all of the rain we had. Couldnt even sit on the patio and watch the boats come in tonight.. eating me alive!
