HARISON TOWNSHIP, MI Macomb County sheriff's deputies believe a 31-year-old Fairhaven man, whom they believe to have been intoxicated, is guilty of crashing his boat into a boat, dingy and seawall Sunday.

The boat crash occurred about 7:23 p.m. in Mac-Ray Harbor Marina.

When deputies arrived, several witnesses pointed to the Fairhaven man who at the time was aboard a 17-foot Bayliner vessel as the culprit.

"Witnesses related that as the Bayliner was entering a canal the operator was having trouble controlling the vessel," Macomb County sheriffs officials said in a statement. "He struck a seawall, then throttled up his boat, made a turn and struck a boat and a dingy that was docked behind a residence on Evergreen Drive."

Deputies say they "realized the man was highly intoxicated" and found an empty fifth of Fireball whiskey on board.

The suspect was given field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer test that revealed a blood-alcohol level of .36 percent, a potentially lethal amount of alcohol in the blood stream, greater than four times the legal limit of .08.

The man was transported to a hospital for treatment.

His boat has been towed and impounded. Charges are pending.
