Just ordered a 7'6" rod to get my lures out a bit further hopefully I can even try it out before ice lol, we will see hopefully the lake cleans up and we can get out one night.

Next weekend is looking real nice, warm and light west winds . Thinking about taking a road trip to Caseville and see if we can catch some lakers casting up there.

I usually cast with an 8'6" MH rod, but I picked up a few real nice 6'6" Gander Mtn rods cheap off ebay and have been bringing one of them along when I cast. That way I have HJ on one rod and the twister on the other, so I don't have to retie. I have been keeping an eye out for a 7'6" rod lately and almost snapped up a carrot stix wild last night off ebay, but didn't cause they usually have a soft tip, where I really like a stiffer tipped rod. Have been looking at the Shimano Cumara 7'6" rods but passed on a new at $150 on ebay, even thou they sell for $250 in stores. I seem to have a hard time spending more than $100 on a fishing rod, even thou I use them a lot. Will be looking all winter on ebay for deals and pickup a few more rods for next year.

Just bought 2 more pflueger supreme 8225's when they were on sale for $60 at Gander Mtn. Nice light reels and when combined with a very good rod makes for a super light casting combo.

On MS reports of guys on the ice in Caseville catching lakers now. You may want to make sure that ice clears out before going up.

so i just picked up a frabill recon deluxe for 80$. i think i got a good deal. its a one man flip over style. i got it so i can be more mobil. anyone have any review of this shanty? and its in good shape, one small tear in the snow skirt but thats no biggie.

I use a recon deluxe. It does seem small at times and I wish I had a bigger one man shanty until you start pulling them around. It is nice and light weight. I also use shorter rods and don't have a problem with hook sets. Also like said you shouldn't have a problem reselling for that price if you don't like it.
