SOSCL
Update
Work at the rear light continues and the structure looks better
each week.
Some of the castings are taking more time than expected and we hope
to have them delivered in about two weeks time for installation.
Except for the decorative railing inserts the lantern room is finished.
There is much work involved installing the steps that have been
broken out and the main door and two windows must be constructed
yet to replace the temporary inserts. More fill inside the seawall
is to be added soon to be ready for the paver work. We hope to obtain
a donation of the seawall railings for safety and looks. We are
stealing funds from the repointing to do other necessary work but
that will be last.
Perhaps we will be able to have visitors by next season when all
aspects of the safety items are satisfied according to our liability
insurance. If you see people on the island it will be SOS officers
and contractors wearing hard hats.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2006
Experts Jeff Shook, Chuck Brockman, and Wayne Sapulski will accompany
this years Bluewater Cruise. This years destination will be the
Harsen's Island Range Light Station.
Leaving Port Huron, Michigan @ 8a.m. on the Huron Lady II. You
will cruise north under the Blue Water Bridge to Michigan's oldest
lighthouse, Fort Gratiot. Then south passing the lightship Huron,
and the Coast Guard buoy tender Bramble, docked at Pine Grove Park.
Docking on Harsens Island about noon. About 1 p.m. we will weigh
anchor and cruise as close as possible past the South Channel Lights
in the St. Clair Flats. Chuck Brockman who has been the driving
force of SOSCL for the past 15 years will provide narration during
this pass.
This is a 9 hour boat trip which includes a full meal, beverages,
dessert and snacks. The boat will dock back in Port Huron about
5pm. Deadlines for will be August 24, 2006 or until the trip is
sold out.
