Guess I'll share our travels here. We're two days into 2 weeks off, and on the Bruce Peninsula right now!
Saturday, we didn't get going as soon as I wanted, but we did anchor in Goose Bay about 7:30. Planned to stay the night there, but just couldn't get the anchor to hold, so we did end up moving to the other side of Seaway around 10.
Cruising in the dark was a little nerve wracking because the port side navigation light burned out. Lot of boats out there!
I'm bummed about one thing. The chain bound up on the windlass and snapped off the tensioning pawl. Didn't see it happen in the dark, but I heard it shoot across the deck.
Hopefully that's the extent of mechanical issues on our trip! (fingers crossed)
Sunday morning we were underway by 7:30. The girls slept most of the way up the St. Clair RIver.
Refueled at Port Huron (and replace the nav. bulb), and headed for Bayfield. There was a big black storm heading for Port Huron that we just nicely missed on the way. Had some rain, but not too bad.
It was hot and sunny by the time we got to Bayfield. Walked into town for pizza. The guy at the gas dock was a know nothing kid. If I hadn't jumped out in time, I'd have a nice big gouge from a cleat on the dock. Then, he wanted to open my gas cap with a flat blade screw driver! WTF! AND, as I was on the phone with customs, he dragged the gas hose across the boat and put some scratches on the radar arch. Oh well, after pizza and a swim, all was well.
It was so nice out, we decided to just keep going, rather than spend the night at Bayfield. It was only another 110 miles to go! Good trip up the lake. Stopped where we could see nothing but water, went for a swim, and began showing our little orange frisbee around.
As we approached out destination, I could see only fog where land should be. Thank goodness for GPS!!! Could see maybe 200' at times.
