7 year old son catches his first muskie

I should start this off by telling U my son has been fishing regularly since he was 5 and catches many bass up to 4lbs and has caught quite a few pike, the largest about 23 inches. We were fishing off the North Channel sunday afternoon. I was casting around a 1oz daredevil (yellow 5 of diamonds), when I saw a nice bass in the shallows. I put down the big pole and grabbed a smaller pole and put a rubber worm on to try and catch it. Well my son picked up the big pole and started casting. On his 3rd cast I heard a loud splash and the unmistakable sound of a fish jumping out of the water. I turned around a saw the splash, then looked at him and saw the pole bent over and him reeling with all he had. I could tell by the bend in the pole it was something nice, so I immediately reminded him not to let the line slack. The fish made 2 good runs in the current when he told me he couldnt hold the pole anymore. I grabbed the pole and told him to get the net. After another run I got the fish close enough to see it, boy did he get excited (me too) It took him awhile but he finally netted the fish. It only had one hook in it and was easy to get out. I had him take a couple pics and then released the fish and it took right off. I guesstimate the fish was 32-36" long. I have pics, tried to load them but says the file to big. I can email them to someone if they want to post them or tell me how to reduce the file or whatever I'm doing wrong. He already wants to go out this weekend and catch a bigger one.

Fantastic, great memories for you and your son. You can download a free software called infranview that has a resize tool to easily resize photo's for all your needs. I recieved this information off this sight and just downloaded it myself, works great for e-mailing also.
Great story. My son just turned three. I can't wait for him to get out there with me and get "hooked". Congrat's to your boy on his first musky.
Awesome!!!!

I can't wait to see the look on my daughters face when she gets her first ski.

That's sweet!

Maybe your son could teach me how to catch musky this year.

Go to www.shrinkpictures.com it's free and soooooo easy! It should automatically open on the "resize" page, if not just click resize on the left menu. Scroll down to the numbered steps - click browse and select the picture you want to shrink, then go right to step 5 as the default settings are fine for posting on this forum.

Once the picture is resized, just right-click on it and click save-as, rename it and save it with the original picture in whatever folder you use.

Then just attach that new resized pic to your post.
Congratulations to your son. You too Dad.
I love these stories. You will never forget this one and good job on the release. The next one will come soon.

OK I think I figured out how to add pics thanx to some fellow members. Now the pic of the fish out of water were taken by my son so there not the greatest, was kinda dissappointed after I saw them and the fish was gone, but so goes it.
