This was sent to me last week:
Saturday, July 19, 2003 marks the 79th sailing of the internationally renowned Bacardi Bayview Mackinac Race, the largest fresh water sporting event in the world.
More than 270 yachts from across the United States, Canada and Europe will race north on Lake Huron from Port Huron, Michigan to historic Mackinac Island.
The boats will sail one of two courses. The Shore Course (204 nm) or the Southampton Course (253 nm). The first finishers are expected to arrive at Mackinac Island late Sunday night.
The race is followed by an awards party Tuesday, July 16 in front of Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island. The party is hosted by Bacardi and is enjoyed by 3,000 sailors and guests.
Prior to the race there are two days of festivities in Port Huron. Thursday, July 11 is called Family Night and Friday, July 12 is known as Boat Night. Over the two days 300,000 visitors will stroll the docks, admire the fleet and enjoy food and beverage.
The Port Huron to Mackinac Race is a true sailing tradition and an experience you will fondly remember for the rest of your life.
