So it is safe to open? I have not had the courage to open any of our 401k statements. Maybe I will get brave.

Ok I ventured into one of the 401k statements. It was not as good ad PD, but it was at least positive (0.5%)

I think I will wait to open my others.

75k<100k. "Below the watermark"

At least your buying cheap now. Just keep saving.

I am of the opinion it's a mistake not to look at your 401K statements.

Its your money. You should be working to make corrections to it. It cannot grow if you do not take the time to protect it.

Lost over 25% last year so around xmas I took another 25% and re- located it in out company stock at a whopping .43 a share. Now my 401 has gained 5x original total in the first quarter. It was a risky move with our company being threatened to be kicked off the exchange but I like it so far.

This low market could be a blessing for those new to 401k programs. The S&P is below the mean (average), PE wise.

If you have time (i.e. you are young), this is a great market. This is the time to save money....if you can afford....
