Went out Sunday 2:00pm to 6:00pm with the boat, first time this year.....managed 14 big crappie(whites) and half a dozen bulls.....and lots of mud bass . I fished Thames river area...water temp is 45-50 degrees in some canals.

Sounds like you might have been using live minnows???

Actually I was using a mini tube 1' under a float tipped with ....you guessed it a minnow. Just tossing it up tight to poles and boat docks.

Just got home from a few canals in the New Baltimore area. 50 degree water, pretty muddy. Only one crappie (about 13").

Did talk to another boat that was getting them on minnows and crawlers. We only used squirmin squirt tubes (1" & 1 1/2") on 1/8oz jigheads and slip bobbers. About 15 or so bluegills and about 10 largemouth (which were promptly released). All in all a great day!

Not trying to be a mullet, but what is a "mud bass"???
largemouth bass. Things overhere Mitchells Bay, St.lukes have been slow with the exception of largemouth bass being caught regularly. Water temp in the bay is 45 degrees......just a little longer and everything will be in full swing

Mini,
When you are using the squirming squirts are you tipping them with live bait (minnows or worms)?
I dont like to use live bait, but alot people do. I have in the past tipped them, but 99 percent of the time I dont.

Thanks Mini. W/O live bait is the way I like to go too.
