[Skunked Stevo]

Dropping my boat into a friends newly acquired property on Lotus lake. It's connected to a # of other lakes in the area. (Maceday,Lester, Van Norman lakes)

I'll be shooting for some bass and possibly pike. I have a usual "feeling out" system on new lakes but I will be entertaining some very novice fisherman and wouldn't mind some suggestions of some who might have fished these lakes or just have their own "feeling out system" for a new lake.

Steve,
Fish right at the drop offs for both the bass and pike.
In Lotus, fish the drops along the cemetary, use dep diver typr crank baits.
In Maceday, fish the eastern side of the lake also along the drop offs.
If you take kids out, fish any of the water that is 10 or less, but close to the weed beds with a worm and a bobber set about 5 feet deep.
East side of Maceday fishing those depths will keep you so busy with the kids, you'll want to go home!

For pike:
If you have anchors use them on both ends of the boat to hold you in place.
Get some slip large bobbers, 3/8 to 1/2 ounce rubber core sinker on a 12ïnch steel leader tipped with a trebel hook, stuck in the middle of the back of small suckers (4 inches if the bait shop has any), set them over the edge of weeded drops offs about 6 or 7 feet deep, and just wait it out very quietly.

Watch that bobber swim around the surface, if it goes under a lot with that sucker then your slip bobber isn't big enough!

However, if the bobber is right size, it will only make a couple of dives, and start to relax.

If the bobber starts to move a little after sitting still keep an eye on it. It will probably go under slowly, then stay under for a few seconds, don't be too fast to set the hook. Wait. Wait. Wait, about 30 seconds! if it stays under for a long enough time, the pike will have it in his mouth good enough to set the hook.
Fish on!!!!

Theres a fishing map book on sale at walmart or meijers in the sporting goods section it has all the lakes in waterford including lotus its real detailed has depts, hot spots ,even tells what has been stocked in each lake , and fish sampleing from the DNR also tells where the baitshops are.Its called SPORTSMANS CONNECTION they got them for all sections of the state.Its white sprialed bound book i got a couple of them already. Very good info on all lakes with a launch. GOOD LUCK

hey man--on Maceday......there re some submerged islands about half way up they rise to about 8 or 10 feet from deep. fish on top of them for bass

** UPDATE **


It was a pretty fair day overall. Landed only six largemouth but one of them was 21' and close to 5 LBs. That was the first fish of the day and it definitely got everyone's hopes up.

That fish was caught on the east side of Maceday to the immediate right of the boat launch. The rest of the fish were barely keepers if that.

Anyone who was out fishing Saturday will agree that the weather was a bit rough early on. Low sixties and extremely windy which hampered the fishing efforts.

I fished the cemetary trolling with crankbaits with no luck at all. Alot of boats in that area just casting jigs and spinners but it seemed noone was gettin much. In general it seemed Lotus lake was a bit too shallow and weedy. Pretty tough going. I could see myself concentrating more on Maceday in the future. THANKS to all that helped with the outting.
