Black Lake, Cheboygan County6/21-6/25

We just got back from up north, fished Black lake mon thru thursday, the fishing was very slow prolly due to the fish fly( Mayfly) hatch, no walleye very disappointing, however we caught a good amount of perch in the 9-11 inch range and some pumpkinseeds, my wife got a fat smallie I think was 18 1/2, memory a lil dulled by the sun and beer, which was so dark that I thought it was a lm til I laid it on the ruler, we caught quite a few keeper size bass all were released, on the last day I was able to land a 23 inch pike with a very bad attitude, a real dark beauty, also released, so we were able to eat great
the weather was unbelievable, radio forecasts called for rain and thunderstorms the whole time but it rained a total of about five minutes over the week, after a light thunderstorm friday morning, we had work to do so we worked on the weekend and fished during the week, never saw more than 5 boats before noon on the 10,000 acre lake so it was very peaceful, fished mostly bb and crawler harnesses, a lil bit of three way setups, and casted some raps and spinners, water was between 70-75 the whole time, a white blade could be seen down about 10 ft.
The water level is very low, at the dnr ramp I had to back in til the water was knee deep at the door. Mostly slow trolled since the wind was nonexistent, I also was able to take my 84 yr old neighbor Tony out and we had a blast catching perch though he was disappointed when he saw my pike, he was sure it was gonna be a big eye, and he showed some spots from many yrs of fishing on the lake, I am so lucky to have such a great neighbor up there, and a wife who likes to fish almost as much as me, goin back in september to try my new spots, til then it's back to work for me.
