How can I find out the capacity of a boat? I have searched everywhere and there is no capacity plate on it. I have seen the formula in a safety brochure for boats under 20ft, but thats all I have found. Any way to get an "official" capacity rating?

The boat is a 28'8'' Monterey 9'6'' beam.

May be a dumb question, but I'm new at this!!

Thanks-
Dave

Here is some info for you:

"Boat builders must comply with Federal law by putting a Capacity Plate in sight of the helm (steering area) on motorized boats less than 20 feet in length. Should you own a boat which was built prior to the Federal law mandating capacity plates or have a homemade boat, the following formulas can be used to determine safe loading capacity."

The capacity formula is:

(boat length x boat width) divided by 15.

So in your case, capacity would be 16.8 people of 150 lbs.

I found source information here
