Well, found some wood rot the other day. Had a guy look at it and he said all four stringers as well as the forward bulkhead in the engine compartment were bad. $4000 for him to repair it. Had another guy look at it yesterday. He thinks the two outer stringers are bad farther forward of the bulkhead as well. Estimate on repair: $8000+. Its an 86. Isnt worth much more than $10,000. Time to take the loss. I cant see putting that much into it. What will I find that is bad three months from now? I am working on a possible sale to a guy in Canada (He knows it has problems). If that deal falls thru, I wondered if there were any places around that would be interested in it for parts. The engine and outdrive are in good condition. 780 or so hours on them. Also, it has other things sellable. Teak swim platform, electronics, etc. I wondered if there was a boat junk yard or something similar around. Anyone have an idea? I'd appreciate any ideas. Hopefully this person from Canada will take it as is.

How long have you had the boat? How was it last year? Heck I know people that just said screw it and kept on boating.
We've had it for 5 years. All four stringers in the engine compartment have gone including the two that support the motor. I wouldn't feel safe with it to continue using it. If the motor came off the mounts with a large wave or wake it could, I would think, break thru the hull. Then I'd have to contend with salvage, least case worry, or danger to passengers, worst case. No, its scrap to me. I won't run it again. It bites, but its the way it is. One of the Canadians who was interested in it is coming to see it today. Hopefully he will want it.
Its a 1986 Wellcraft 260 Aftcabin. It has a merc 260HP with an Alpha with a brand new prop and one that was reconditioned and used for one season. There is a Garmin GPS, a fishfinder, Battery Charger, Halon Automatic extinguisher, New VHF radio. Thats about it.
I would sell the electronics dirt cheap (I need a fishfinder and GPS
) and part out the boat if you could. Then I would donate the boat and try to get a tax credit. There are several places that will accept boats...... in any condition, and you get a fair market value for the boat.
My .02.......

Any idea on where I would go to donate it?
I'm in need of a prop.
Is it four blade aluminum? pitch?
I have an alpha drive on my 240 Sea Ray OV
Actually, its a Michigan Wheel, 031051. 16 inch Diameter, Right hand, 16 pitch. I have two. One is brand new, never been on the boat, the other was reconditioned last spring at Henry's in Algonac. Used one season. Not a nick on it I believe. Brand new, I think I paid $120.
And while I am thinking about it, I also have a gasket kit for an Alpha drive as well as an oil filter for the 260HP merc. Any one interested?
How is your transom plate for the engine? I need to replace one on mine. I might be interested in removing it.

Thanks!!!
Is that part of the outdrive or the actual transom of the boat you need?
It's the part on the transom that holds the engine to the transom. I would need the plate (that's attached to the transom) and the thing (I don't know what they call that part exactly) that is actually holding the outdrive to the transom plate.

Well, I am hoping to hear that that person from Canada wants the entire boat. I am shying away from parting it all out. That's due to the fact I will have to cut up and dispose of the hull. If it does come down to me parting it out and selling what I can, I will let you know. Hopefully I will know by the end of this week. Either from the Canadian or somewhere I can donate it.
Well, its all done. I donated it to the National Domestic Violence Center. I'd recommend them to anyone else in this situation. They take of everything. I dont have to worry about scrapping it all out and dealing with disposing of the hull.

Now all I gotta do is get a new boat before the summer is over. I still have that brand new prop if anyone is interested. I am going to post it on the for sale thread section of the board.
Good luck Spider, keep us posted.
Thanks for the info!!! Do you happen to have their phone number by any chance, or the exact name of the place?
