MARBLEHEAD, Ohio - The Coast Guard searched Wednesday afternoon for anyone who was in an empty aluminum fishing boat found in Lake Erie between the mainland and Middle Sister Island.

The search began about 10:40 a.m. when the 16-foot vessel was observed. Items in the boat, including keys in the ignition, suggested it was recently occupied, said Senior Chief Petty Officer Greg Zerfass, of the Coast Guard's Marblehead station. Joining the search were vessels from the Coast Guard's Marblehead and Toledo stations; U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources division of watercraft.

An aircraft from the Coast Guard in Detroit took part as well.

Whenever I am in the home office I have the marine radio on and even during the winter you would be surprised how many boats are out on the lake when there is open water. And the CG is always monitoring and talking back and forth with the CG helicopter and each CG base locations. Pretty interesting.
