Anyone plan on using this program?

I can give out some employee discounts right now to people that are switching from a competitor vehicle to a GM vehicle. It combines with the cash for clunkers money as well as any current incentives to add up to a pretty good deal.

The discount is also availible without the cash for clunkers thing as well...I think its usually between 10 and 15% off retail price.

If you want the employee discount all I need is the vin number off the competitive vehicle, your name, and birthday...PM me.

He is definitely looking for one, but there aren't many of the 2010s out there yet. He is having trouble finding the trim level/configuration he needs...

Yup, I got the GM employee discount, I just can't find the vehicle. Any GM dealers out there want to do some leg work and then make a quick sale?

This will be my first ever GM purchase, but I won't give up the $4,500, so if i can't find the vehicle in the next 3 weeks, it's back to those "other" companies

yup, my dealer said the same thing. Said they get a $50 credit for that and any paperwork. Said it only cost them $15

PM me what exactly you are looking for. I've bought 3 cars in the last 3 weeks and the dealer has been pretty good locating what I want.

Have you looked at the 2009 Saturn Aura? It's the same vehicle as the 2010 Equinox....it got the updates in the 2009 model year. My boss just picked one up.

The Saturn Vue doesn't get high enough gas mileage to qualify for the "clunkers" program

This was true thru the 2009 model year. The 2010 Equinox is a new architecture/chassis so they are no longer the same.

'Clunkers' program running on empty
David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau

Washington -- That was quick. The Transportation Department was preparing to suspend its $1 billion "Cash for Clunkers" program late Thursday after it had all but run out of money.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was calling key members of Congress Thursday afternoon to notify them that the government's program to stimulate car and truck sales was being tapped out -- less than a one week after it kicked off.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration had estimated that about 250,000 vehicles would qualify for buyer incentives of up to $4,500. The program was set to last until Nov. 1 -- or until they ran out of money.

The Transportation Department said it was preparing a major announcement on the program Thursday afternoon, but did not dispute the reports of LaHood's calls.

Congress will most likely make a big push to boost funding for the program. Proponents originally sought $4 billion, but settled for $1 billion when Congress approved it in June.

I predict this will not help the dealers in the end. They are going to get screwed over because of some snafu in the paperwork and reimbursement from the government won't come. I don't get the sense they exactly know how many deals have occured since only ~23,000 are certified so far according to freep. Looks like they are just guessing they have met their total??

If you didn't already act, you might be waiting a while! The program is now SUSPENDED.

The new Cash for Clunkers program has been suspended as federal transportation authorities fear it may already have exhausted its one billion dollar budget. The plan allowed consumers to get vouchers of up to 45-hundred dollars when trading in a used vehicle for a new, more fuel efficient model...and dealerships around the country have reported big business since it took effect this week. Congressman Fred Upton -- who heavily backed the program -- says that even he was surprised by how quickly it ran out of money:

Cash for Clunkers was originally authorized to use up to four billion dollars, but only one billion was actually set aside for it. Through late Wednesday, 22,782 vehicles had been purchased through the program, and nearly 96 million dollars had been spent...but dealers raised concerns of large backlogs in the system, prompting the suspension. Upton, co-chair of the Congressional Auto Caucus, urged that unspent federal stimulus money be put into the Cash for Clunkers program.
