My wife and I are both ready to purchase cell phones which will primary used on the boat. Can anyone recommend any cell provider over another which will give us good service primary in Lake St. Clair and St. Clair River.

Thanks in advance!

Howdy Firstone,

This topic has been covered quite a bit already in other threads, but I'd say Verizon works best. I hate Verizon, but I have two phones with them as they have the best coverage. We slip on Harsens and Verizon works best at our marina. As you travel along the St Clair river be careful of your signal. Good chances you are catching a Canadian tower and paying roaming fees. Otherwise thats about it.

Happy Boating.

I have cingular and have a place on Harsen's Island I do not have any problems using my phone on the Island or in the boat. They also just put up a sprint tower on the island about 7-8 months ago on the south channel side. My wife has sprint it works good on the island but not real good out in the water.

I went from Cingular to Verizon almost 3 years ago because Cingulars coverage was terrible. Heard it got much better, used to go into roam in Grosse Pte
Have had no problems with Verizon on the water at all.

I'll second everyones opinion. Verizon seems to have the best coverage with the least amount of roaming spots out on the pond. The only thing that stinks is that alot of the area on the lake has analog only coverage - meaning your battery drains 10x as fast, so grab a charger

Does anyone know how well the Nextel phones work on the lake. I have a Telus Mike phone which is a sister company to Nextel and haven't had the chance to try it yet. I hope the two way feature will still work too!

I've had Verizon for a few years now and have no complaints. Used it on the lake in most areas without a problem.

I do wish Verizon would roll-over any left over minutes to the next month though.... other than that.
