UPDATED: 11:42 AM EST January 13, 2004

Three groups of people were rescued Tuesday morning after being stranded on ice that broke free on Lake St. Clair.

Several people were ice fishing in the area of Brandenburg Park in Anchor Bay, located along Jefferson, near 23 Mile Road, when the ice broke, according to Chesterfield Township officials. Three people jumped off and swam to shore, police said. The others waited on the ice floe for assistance.

Nine people near Metro Beach Metropark were also stranded on broken ice, according to reports. Boats and a helicopter were reportedly involved in the rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard.

A third group of three people were trapped on ice in Ira Township in St. Clair County, according to the Sheriff's Department. Everyone was rescued safely.

The Sheriff's Department is warning people to stay off the ice.

Muskrat,
This is a great story, but should be posted in the News Around the Lake forum. I have already linked to your post from there.
