Seriously, with the number of complaints I get regarding questionable avatars or the flak some people take regarding their opinions on the board I'm suprised no one has complained about this blatent support and encouragement of complete alcohol abuse.

Sure a lot of us drink, probably some of us too much, and some of us have done some stupid things when we were drunk. Some of us are dealing with drinking and driving violations as a result of our drinking. AJU got lucky last night. A drinking and driving arrest will screw up your life big time, money, time, work, etc. And let's not forget that just getting caught is the least harmful thing that may happen, death, injury, property damage are all possible.

On that note, although a lot of money was raised, there are better ways to fund charities than to encourage someone to drink mass quantities of alcohol. I don't think that's the message that the LSCN is trying to promote.

How would everyone feel today if CBJ did suffer alcohol poisoning? On November 4, 1998 a dude named Brad from Michigan State died while celebrating his 21st birthday at Ricks. He was just out to have fun. Brads Story

There can be serious consequences to large quantities of alcohol consumption. Alcohol Poisoning

I know I probably will get crap for being a party pooper and some people will harbor resentment that I posted this, but think about it and ask yourself it it really makes sense. CBJ is a great person to have around and it would suck if something would happen to him (or anyone else on the board) as a result of encouragement of alcohol abuse. I'm actually suprised the bar/waitress went along with it, with liability and all.

Everyone keep safe and party responsibly!!!

people were there watching him, eddie and myself did not drink at all. we took him and aju to dinner after tnt's last night to get them something to eat to try to absorb some of the booze and give aju a little time to sober up before driving. we are watching out for them. cbj stopped in the middle of a beer, no one forced him to drink more. he knew when he wanted to stop and he did.

dude...

cbj is an adult. he knew his limits. he paced himself, much like we pace ourselves when drinking on the boats for a whole day AND night. he handled himself well, and when that was slipping, his peeps were right there to take care of him. everyone there was watching his back from the time he started with lunch at 2pm.

no, i don't think you're a jerk for your statement and cbj is lucky to have someone concerned about his welfare. but it did take the wind out of such a great fundraiser... OVER $500 !!!!!!!! wahooooooooooo!!

and your comment about your avatars... come on... you push it and you know it. besides, what does your avatars have to do with cbj? lol!!

nice thoughts, tho, goosey-goose.

I don`t think of you as a party pooper.....A concerned friend maybe..... A man

showing his years of wisdom maybe....Someone that cares for those who he shares

good times with maybe....Whatever some will call you should not keep you

from posting your feelings for sure....They are heartfelt ....and meant no harm to

anyone.....By the way I agree with you...

While I'm sure it could of gone way wrong it really wasn't like that. CBJ was drinking at his own pace. I could see if we were all sitting around him yelling one more drink one more drink but it wasn't like that at all. Besides being drunker than the rest of the crowd noone would of even know anything was going on. Keep in mind he started around 2 in the afternoon. 26 beers in 9+ hours really isn't all that nuts for a beer drinker like CBJ.

I do not resent you for posting this, but commend you. I was worried as well. That is why I made the little sly comment about needing a blood transfusion. Am glad he is okay this fine day

I have a 13 year old student on one of my runs who's dream is to turn 21, go to Chicago, get totally drunk and wake up next to two babes........I smell a binge drinker
and you know the two babes will be fugly and more wasted than himself. SAD indeed.

We all go over the edge sometimes......for whatever reason, but try to keep this thread and stories in mind when you are out.

Thanks Goose and FitChick

hey, people are all worried that their kid might sign on and see a boob or a a$$ crack, big whoop, how about them signing on and seeing how cool and fun it is to drink til you can't drink anymore, and how much fun everyone has encouraging it, and how, maybe, he could be the life of the party if he drank a lot.........

seems a lot worse than seeing an a$$ crack

Goose, you have a very good point here; we don't want to see anymore DUIs, or god forbid, someone dying. On the other hand, I think CBJ acted responsibly in having a designated driver and sticking exclusively to beer (every case of alcohol poisoning I've heard of involves distilled liquor). It's pretty much to the point where if you're going to have more than 2 or 3 drinks, you should come with a designated driver or take a cab home; it sucks, but that's just the way it is now.

I am glad to see some stimulating conversation that is heartfelt and to point out that alcohol is overrated and that we don't want to send the wrong message. Goose I agree with your concerns. I also knew that the boys had CBJ taken care of. As far as the DUI stuff. I worry about that all the time and hope that DUI, or vehicular homocide never happens with this group. In a car, or ON THE WATER.
