Did it once. Will not do it again. Just wasnt worth the gas $ and aggravation of all the traffic.

But - you should do it once.

Second that. Did it twice and don't really have the desire to go again. It IS the best place to view the fireworks though. The problems for me were the bugs, the traffic, distance and hassle. All that and the fact its on a weeknight doesn't make it very tempting anymore. But hey go at least once!

Welcome to the site TurtleSB

We've been down a few times and it's fun if the wind cooperates. It's a late night though, so expect that if you have to work Thursday. I would suggest not leaving right after the show ends, let the crowd thin out quite a bit, then take off.

That's about all I can think of right now, I'm sure more will chime in.

Thanks, Soo Sassy

Luckily, I have Thursday and Friday off of work! (Friday for Nooner).... I figured the fireworks would last until about 11:00 or so, and then I'm expecting a lot of traffic on the way home. We're looking forward to some beautiful weather, impressive fireworks, and hanging out with good friends. Can't get much better than that

How crazy is it going to be out there???

It's crazy - good luck!

Best viewing by water is the Ambassador Bridge(downriver) side.

If you try to anchor in middle of the river(over 40ft deep), throw your anchor 100yds up river from where you want ot be. the current is very strong.

Again, good luck.

I am definitely going. I've been there several times before, but it has been several years. I don't recall the fishflys being as bad this week of the year as before...seemed they were pretty much wrapping up, but I'm hoping they will be less on the river than in the marina.

I'd plan on going down early and spending time just on the hook, otherwise it's hard to get a real good spot. You can go down rather late and still get a good spot up by Belle Isle though.

My plan this year to avoid the rush on the way back (which is really the only downside that I've experienced all the times I've been down there), is to take the north side of Belle Isle, as it is essentially a no wake zone. I don't know how well it's observed, but I'm hoping when I come out the upriver side and ready to head into LSC that the bulk of the traffic has already passed and the lake is beginning to settle down. Hopefully the slow speed won't invite a gather of bugs either!

Have fun, and be safe!!!

I'm doubtful it's going to work out, but we may go out and anchor just out from our well. Here is the view after making that long, arduous, 3,000' journey.

I used to go but nomore.. Too many boats in too small of an area all trying their best to be the first one out. Got to be too much for me when my 25 footer was almost swamped and I was on the nowake side of the island.. Be careful out there this year .. There are going to be extra patrols out looking for people drinking and partying especially since that boating accident happened last weekend.

OK, went down and overall I thought it went GREAT!! Got down there about 6:30 and was surprised to be the first boat down by the C.G. boat (there were a few already anchored off the tip of Belle Isle). Grilled some food, played some games and music while the rest of the floatilla arrived and anchored. Other than a couple good size cruisers coming through all the anchored boats and "more than no wake" speed.

I took the north side of Belle isle and most people behaved.. by the time we got to the river it had calmed down where the whole ride was pretty pleasant - slow though, because there was no moonlight to help illuminate those things you need to watch out for.

I'd do that trip again!
