it was horrible on the water today. our boat had 3 guys in it, and we managed one 16" walleye, and one 22" walleye in 6 hours. no boat we talked to had more than 2 fish, but a couple people had some 8 pounders. we fished around fighting island around the warm water discharge, at the steel mill. the wallies did taste good, though. derrek

Great board.
I have a question about walleye fishing in the Detroit River. It has been several years since I fished the river. My father inlaw would take me down to Elizabeth Park and we would troll with crankbaits. I see and hear about the spring run going on now and was just wondering if anyone trolls or is it strictly a jig bite?

Trolling is great my Poe's crank bait has got me many limits. Lite line was my key 4-6lb fireLine. The thing with trolling there is everybodys jiggin so you got boats drifting to the end than blasting back so it's congested in that area, not good to troll right there for the traffic reason. But trolling on the outskirts is what i would do, just stay away from all the busy traffic. Using the hot+tots works real well also, add a scent to them. So go there evaluate the situation and commence the troll. You'll nail them, millions of walleye there now.

Welcome to the St.Clair Network. Mission to help one another.

h2o<---says go for it and try jiggin if trolling isn't working. Always good to have Plan B.

H2O,
Thanks for the information. I live in Lincoln Park and would be launching from Wyandotte. What are the best areas to fish around Wyandotte. How long of a boat ride would it be to Elizabeth Park. Like I said before I haven't fished the river for years.

h2o<---enjoy, give us a report after you go.. The main spot is just south of the bridge going to grosse isle,, thats the south bridge right there at elisabeth park, you'll see a pack of boats there that whole area can be productive troll use your graph and note the spot you catch one and work it. You can't miss it.

h2o,
I remember the bridge and yes your right we did head south. We used to fish that area all the time and also by the island.
I like to do alot of bass fishing should I stay in St Clair or does the river offer some good smallmouth fishing.
I'm really trying to avoid getting a Canadian License.

Come june 19th, Bass will be everywhere, everywhere, so fish for them in the lake and river. Lots of american water to fish. I stopped getting canadian license's. I'm luckie because i kinda can pick and choose days to go. So i study weather alot. Just later in the season traffic can be bad on weekend afternoons. Night fishing is over looked, but you have to be nocturnal.

h2o<--says hope this helped. good luck this year.
