Hey there everyone this is Cory again with this week's fishing report on the lake. Fishing has been slowed by the mayfly hatch and not many good catches have been reported, but there still are opportunities to catch a few fish out there.
Water temps have been holding right around 65-68 on the main lake and in the channels 62-64. The water clarity has drastically improved out there and we are now starting to see a lot of weed growth to the surface. Winds have been strong out of the W and SW during the last week.
Walleye have been fairly slow, but some are still being caught. The areas that fish are coming in from are the North Channel, Middle Channel, and still out from Metro Beach. In the North Channel they are in 50-55 feet of water with chugging sinkers and jigs. Back troll with the current to keep your line straight. Spottail minnows are working the best, size wise 1.5-2 inches. Also in the North Channel boats are starting to troll for them in about 18 feet of water with crawler harnesses and bottom bouncers out towards Grassy Island. (This area is located between Deckers Landing and Grassy Island.) In the Middle Channel boats are drifting with crawler harnesses and bottom bouncers in 20 feet of water. In front of Metro Beach (16 Mile Rd.) boats are still getting a few by trolling with crawler harnesses. Colors are silver blades and red beads, chartruese, and gold blades with red beads. Depths here are 10-12 feet.
Bass have been slow also this past week in the Northern areas, but the Dumping Grounds around 9 Mile Rd. and 8 Mile Rd. have been the most productive. Here boats are casting tube jigs (white, cream or green with brown flake) in about 6-8 feet of water. Find some weed structure here and fish around that. Some spinners have worked, but the blades need to be silver.
Muskie are starting to slow again in the Northern areas of the lake. Although inbetween Grassy Island and Strawberry island (North and South direction) boats are trolling in 13 feet of water about 4 feet under the surface.
Yellow perch have been the hot item as of late. 2 areas have been fairly productive for them, including in front of Metro Beach(16 Mile Rd.), and out from the Firecracker on the South Channel(Shipping Channel). Out from Metro Beach(16 Mile Rd.) boats are drifting perch rigs and slip bobbers in 12 feet of water. Minnows(spottails 1.5-2inches) are the best right now. In the Shipping Channel boats are anchoring in 18-20 feet of water and are using slip bobbers and perch rigs to pick them up.
Northen pike and panfish have been slow, but a few are being caught in Anchor Bay up near FairHaven.
Hope everyone is enjoying the great weather and see you at the launches, Cory.
