After seeing this brought up on the Dyngus thread, I thought it would be worth making its own thread out of it. We have probably all been guilty of driving under the influence at some time (it doesn't take much to get to .08). If you're going to drive after drinking, please remember to: make sure all your lights are working properly (including your liscense plate light), your lights are on if at night, you have your seatbelt on, you use your turn signals to change lanes/ make turns and your radio is not blasting loud. We all know it's better to call a cab or spend the night, but if you're going to do it, at least try to minimize your risks of being caught. If pulled over, do not argue with the cop, if anything apologize for your condition. If he's nice, he may let you walk home.

Good ideas
Don't drive to fast , don't drive to slow

Driving too slow and running stop signs and lights are the biggest indicators from I've heard. More so than weaving. Try not to "not" weave. You get overly focused and end up weaving worse.
I've been guilty of this myself, but I don't think that this is something we should be promoting on the board.
Having more than one beer per hour constitutes driving while intoxicated. STOP DRINKING SO MUCH and you won't get pulled over!!

Public service announcement from your prosecutors office!!

I didn't mean it as way of condoning such action, just let me go on record saying that.
Other things cops look for - stopping at green lights, bouncing from line to line on the road (weaving), keeping one tire on a line (in an attempt not to weave), lack of head movement on the driver, incorrect or lack of use of signals, signaling turns when not turning (confusion as to location), windows open on a freezing cold night (attempt to revive).

The worst signal to give to a cop is being at a stop light and having a cop pull up right next to you as you are taking a huge gulp out of your BUD bottle. They usually pull you over 100% of the time then. (In Montana, they just passed a referendum that it is OK to have open alcohol in a car - the only state in the nation where it is legal).

Don't talk on the phone either!

I really appreciate the honesty of this thread. We all know it happens, but people are afraid to talk about it. All of the point's are good points to remember if it happens to you!
I've had this kind of discussion with people many times, so I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I remember a similar thread getting shut down in the summer. I'm just saying this is a family sight (that leans toward partying
) and we shouldn't be encouraging illegal activity! This is coming from someone with a DUI.

Diving Under the Influence

yes we all need to be careful !

I agree, if we are going to party, please drink responsably, have a designated driver, or call a cab, or spend the night.
I don't like seeing anyone get in trouble, or anyone get hurt.

I personally didn't feel that anyone was encouraging drinking while intoxicated what so ever. I felt that people were speaking truthfully about the subject. I am speaking as someone who has never gotton a DUI and I don't drink and drive. What Detroit needs is a real PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM, just like every other major city in the country.
hehe, i say after 12am, it is a mandatoy law, you drive a golf cart where ever you go !
that would minimize d&d deaths, and all !

Amen!
One tip I might add is use your crusie control....no up and down speeds that way. But the best advice is the one I use almost every weekend and I plan on using Sat.

shamrock 586-777-1111
sterling 586-755-5555
chesterfield 810-463-5055

Program them in your phone. There the best numbers you can have. If anyone needs a ride in the morning to pick up a car call me and I'll be glad to help you out.
