Today I went to RamCharger's and bought a HyperTech Power Programmer for my truck for $349.00. There are three different settings that you can program it... 56 hp w/ 94 ft-lbs torque, 77 hp w/ 130 ft-lbs torque, or 96 hp w/ 163 ft-lbs torque. It took all of a few minutes to program and the results are amazing.
One of the options is to adjust for different tire sizes, which corrects the speedometer if you have larger tires and also changes the shift points for the Allison Transmission. If I ever need to take the truck in for service I can re-program to the factory settings.
I can already see my fuel mileage going out the window... everytime I accelerate the pedal is to the floor. Do you think the new-ness will wear off and I'll drive normal???
I'm already thinking about what I should get next... stay tuned to next week.
I've been thinking about chipping my d-max for a while. At one time I was looking at the BD-EZ amp inline chip. It has several settings like yours and monitors the trans and backs off if slipping is detected. It does not however adjust for different tire sizes.

If you want, drive my truck... or we can program your truck with my programmer. The problem is that you can only program one vehicle at a time. We would have to load the original program back in my truck, then program your truck saving your stock settings on the programmer.
Capt'n Mike, I'm considering getting the exhaust system. I'm not sure if I want all of the noise though. It would be one thing if it was toy, but I drive this all day and at times have customers with me. Might be hard to carry a conversation.
As far as your other question, seems to me that you would want the most power. Fuel economy shouldn't be a major factor. I'm still getting around 19/20 miles per gallon.
QUOTE(Capt'n Mike @ Apr 30 2004, 05:51 PM)Pardon me if this is a stupid question, but why wouldn't you want the most power? Is it just a fuel economy thing?
Fuel economy and pats longevity thing. All car makers do this.

Thanks, I might take you up on the test drive sometime. I'll do some reading up on it for now.
I thought once you used a Hypertech programmer your VIN was burned inito it and if you wanted to use it on another vehicle you had to send it in to have the VIN cleared. Maybe it is model year changes I'm thinking about.

That truck will pull your life together!
Mopar fan here
Uh, D'max's have 590ft-lbs, and 310hp.
The 2004 models do, my 03 is a tad less. I'm very happy with it as it is but as a gear head / horsepower junkie..... Well since I can't aford the truck and a hot car to play with I'm gonna have to make the truck do for both.

I'd really like to get one to replace my bent up '95 GMC 1/2 ton P.O.S., but $30K is alotta money for a stripped down model.

You can say that again bruther!!!
The only options I didn't get where leather and the over head DVD player. The D-max and Allison options where $5500.00 alone.
For another few thou I could have gotten a new Vette.
