Gentlemen: You may have seen this already, but here's a chance to get the ball rolling. Some may have heard about what's been taking place by the CO's at the MB area. If you are so inclined, do what you can.

Subject: Information and E-mail campaign.........

Hey guys.......We're fighting for our economic lives on this one and it's an election year!......We believe our meeting yesterday with our member of parliament was very productive.......he is going to address the harassment and threat issues Monday AM in parliament!.....I expect to hear back from him this week!......Further, it was his (the MPP's) suggestion that existing legislation is outdated and needs to be modernized and changed in favour of an "Early Catch and Release Season"......My suggestion was for it to start April 15(early Largemouth fishery) and end at midnight before the "Catch and Keep" opener, which is always the last Saturday in June.....We need to be locked and loaded for this fight, cause it's going to be short, sweet and decisive........so we need every concerned and/or affected fisherman to be on board........We need LOTS of people to please take a couple minutes and............
1. E-mail their support for the "Early C & R" season to the addresses below and CC myself and please explain how it would affect you, the number of trips, length of stay and the possible numbers of new people that would be introduced to our area and anything else you can think of........Why?.....Because this all translates into revenue, licenses and Tax $$$$$ for gov't coffers, and as my good friend Sam Brown from Lexington, KY says "gov't understands $$$$$$$!"
2.If you have had a threatening, abusive confrontation with an OMNR Conservation Officer, or if you know anyone that has, please send an e-mail to the addresses below and CC myself, describing the confrontation, the end result and whether or not it will affect your future travel plans to Mitchell'sBay or Ontario!.....The Province and this Municipality spend millions of $$$$ promoting tourism so PLEASE don't hold back on this one because the MPP's whole point of the legislative change is to eliminate these confrontations altogether!
3.Please post this info and these e-mail addresses anywhere that you think will help!......Send it to everyone you know that might have an interest......bounce it on message boards from coast to coast and East to West......Forward it to your address book!......Please stress the urgency of the situation!......We see every State in the Union represented here in the Spring, and every year it's like a big family reunion!.....We all want that to continue!......If I can answer any questions FOR ANYBODY please contact me at [email protected]
Thanks very much for your help!
Dennis

BTW.......Our MPP(Member of Provincial Parliament) suggested, and I agreed for the time being, that we keep this info off ours and the TFN message board so as not to give any of the Conservation Officers or MNR personnel concerned a heads up on this!......We know that the Enforcement Division is a regular visitor to both sites!

No one should be surprised that things are being discussed in Ontario at the same time they are being discussed in Michigan. There are dynamic reasons for it.

They should go hand in hand. I'm sure the MDNR will be interested in seeing this development as Ontario should be interested in the developments in Michigan. Take this to the bank: No one has shown fishing for spawning largemouths OR smallmouths hurts overall bass recruitment - what happens to the actual population. NO ONE!

There are a tiny number of studies looking at this. There are few studies looking at genetics changes in bass due to this also. None of them have shown an effect that warrants closed seasons on most lakes. There are MANY, MANY studies nationwide that show there can be no direct correlation drawn from fishing in the spawn to bass recruitment including our own Michigan studies. In fact, there are Michigan studies that show if harvest is low, bass size can even IMPROVE under catch and release (Wakeley Lake).

hi.
i am new to this site and being from ohio i would like to see a catch and release season in michigan.
here in ohio there is not a closed season at all, and with 75 federation clubs in 6 regions, the walmart bfl, 10 or 15 team trails, open tournaments, bank fisherman, weekend anglers and many more....our bass in ohio lakes have been surviving strong. having fished for 25 yrs in ohio tournaments i wanted to fish in the michigan bfl, i fished 3 events last year as a boater. i was suprised after paying over 100.00 for three fishing licenses for st clair, canada, indian resv. hotel fees and i drove 250 miles to get up there to be told i cant fish for bass untill third sat in june ? i guess i should have read more of the regulations before coming there to fish. anyway to make it short...lake erie out of sandusky bay gets hammered all spring, then all the charters taking bass...how come it still takes 20lbs+ to win down here ?? your going to lose a lot of money. and your season is to short..catch and release is a good idea.

I've been catching and releasing bass all spring while fishing for walleye.

I have caught walleye on Rattle-Traps, Tubes, Crankbaits and Spinnerbaits.

I have never experienced the enforcement issue you describe and frankly any attorney would have a field day with it.

As far as prefishing is concerned, I wouldn't worry about it. Have at it!

I think this whole issue is being over blown.

My neighbor is DNR and he laughs at these rumors.
Of course Canada may be a different story.

When they get done taking all your guns away, what next?
