Okay, I've got to vent..... I worked a hard long day and come home to my beautiful wife and get a great big hug.. Then the Yorkies run around and I give them hugs. We eat dinner and then I go to the computer room to check my email... Only to find 150 emails and 149 of the emails were junk... Anything from finding women in Russia, ebay, grow your thing bigger, Viagria, trips, Start over 100 different business's..... When's it going to all stop??
I have tried to send back emails asking to be taken off of their list. I have tried to add them to a list to keep them from letting their emails make it through to my computer...
Who's going to tell me how to stop junk mail from getting to me??? I will gladly by you a drink the next time that I see you..... MAYBE EVEN TWO.....

When was the last time you checked your email??? WOW!Start blocking those email addresses and block html graphics. By blocking the graphics they can't see if you actually downloaded the email or not....in other words they won't know if your email is a real account or not.....

Maybe someone else has some ideas........
Sounds like hotmail. TONS of junk. Try to block global domains ( *.blabla.junk.com) Hotmail only lets you block a limited number of domains and it will take longer to run out.
What email app do you use?

....and BTW NEVER and I mean NEVER reply for any reason, especially to ask to be removed. You will only confirm their email is gettgin to a real person.

I have a Bignet account... I believe it's called pop email.....

And I receive 100 to 150 emails a day...
I have the same problem with emails and I tried to block them but I still get them. I just got used to it and just deleted them every day. If there is a better way I wouldn't mind knowing what it is.
If its your internet provider account, there isnt much you can do. They have sold you out. If its a hotmail account you can set it to exclusive. That means any email incoming has to be on your contact list. I believe there are some email filters you can install for the ISP accounts. I have no idea whether they are any good. I have never used them. AOL users are especially spammed from what I've seen of friends computers. It totally blows. It slows down the net, lets porn into your puter that kids could possibly access, and is generally a pain in the A$$.

Someone told me that if I used a bunch of key words that come in the subject line that you can block emails that way but I just don't know how to do it and I forgot who mentioned it one day at the office. We have almost 300 people in our office...

ditto.
since i answer the mail from jack's accounts (ALL of them), you would NOT believe the spam i get. i tried the 'remove me please' then the 'remove me or i will sue,' then i finally settled on blocking the addresses.

anytime ANYTHING comes over from plinko or hot deals or fistingisgood, i just immediately block, block, BLOCK it out. i know we shouldn't HAVE to do it, but it's the easiest way to go.

and yes, it is UBER annoying!

This is something I was gonna consult with Shandog and Pauligan....

Set up the account for the web site I created and I am getting XXX mail.

How am I getting these....I have Never been to one of these. All I need is the kids to come across these.

Do not understand how they can arbitrarily send out stuff.
Good news may be on the way! I just heard of a senator or rep from I think New York that is trying to make "spam mail" illeagal. He actually had figures into the Millions of dinero that it costs computer users every day because of the time wasted reading and deleating instead of working. But with the swiftness of our lawmakers, and the amount of lobbying they will probably get from the spamers, I wouldn't hold my breath. <_<

Gary:

Who is your ISP Provider? Contact them and see if there are any email "filter" settings you can apply that you may not be currently using.

Also, create a bogus email account on yahoo - that way when you come to those forms that are "required" to give an email address, you can give the "other" email versus your primary email. Yahoo has some junk email filters in it which you can use to help weed out the bs.

Additionally, I get porn in my mailboxes for MetroEateries all the time - and I think the same thing - Sometimes they have pictures that pop up w/out me even opening them that pi$$e$ me off too - I don't want my kids seeing that stuff either.

Good Luck!!

Well in that you have some good news. If you have a POP account that means you are almost certainly using an email client such as Eudora, Outlook Express or Netscape mail.

You can use your email client to filter out email based upon a wide variety of parameters. Providing an authoritative response to your inquiry would take all day to write, but if you call me I will walk you through the steps to set it up.

Now as noted earlier - Almost every ISP and service provider will "sell you out". That's why services are free or very low cost. Keep this in mind when you are buying services. ISP's can EASILY monitor where you go, who you email, EVERYTHING. This info is often proved packaged up for marketers and voila. Often boilerplate service agreements will suggest otherwise but they actually leave a back door for spam etc. as it is a very lucrative business. One "spammer" was recently quoted after being harassed as saying hey, AOL gladly sells me their list on a regular basis. Why? Because they make a lot of dam$ $$$ off of it (you). Also note that while YOU may be offended, there are many who are not hence market economics keep the spam market alive and well.

Bottom line - If you use judicious use of rule based email handling you will be better off but don't expect it to catch everything or you will end up losing something you want.

Right now I have 1852 pieces of junk mail in my deleted box (waiting to hit 2000) and most of it I did not even see.

If you have other questions, feel free to contact me, I'd be glad to help out with a few questions here and there.

Gary and Shandog - If you have your own domain/website and have set-up access to it, then you have more options available. Use a catchall email address that points nowhere. If you are unix or linux you can point it to dev/null. You could also have a regular email addy account for your catchall and have everything received through it get deleted. A catchall account accepts email that is not addressed to a recognized recipient. IE If you send mail to [email protected] the catch all email address will receive it. If you have your own domain, your catchall is probably your mail/admin email there and you will be getting everything. Why? Because whoever sold you your domain or hosting is getting even more $$$ for your email addy that the rest.

Some people also recommend changing your email frequently, but that is a whole other animal.

Good luck!!!

Yes and you can bet that each of those images is dynamically generated from a DB which means that they KNOW someone using that email addy saw it hence they know you are a LIVE person.

It seems like I'm not the only one having the same problem with email. Thanks to everyone for all of your advice... Now, only if I understood most of it that was given..
I was paying AOL $25 and got nothing but junk than switched to Yahoo for free and have not gotten a single piece in a few months.
