I have a friend who has a boat with an older engine on it. How long will it run with a compression of 70 on one of the cylinders while the the other one is showing 120. Can it be used cautiously for awhile? Will it eventually keep losing compression over use?

it could run for along time. the compression should be equal on both or at least close to it. if i could not afford a rebuild, or it may just need a re-ring, i would run with it as long as i had a back up motor. or a good pair of paddles lol. i run with a leaky boat and a 1971 evinrude i bought on e-bay. better to fish with what you got than not fish at all.

Just a shot it the dark, but make sure that all the head bolts are tights. I would also look at the head gasket and see if look intact. As I said it a shot in the dark, most likely its the rings. Good luck and bring a paddle and phone.

A VHF will let you broadcast to more people than a phone will...
