Yup, I have a fear of heights and I also get nauseous really easy. I have never flown and this is the reason why. If I don't have to fly I won't I'll drive.

Now I know all the statisitics, like more accidents happen on the road, blah blah blah. It doesn't make me feel any better!

What to do? We can afford and are ready and willing, so far just Jeff on the willing part, to go to Las Vegas this coming spring. I would like to go there but don't want to commit because of my fear, only.

Now I am sure I don't want to drink on the flight, that would probaly make me more paranoid. I don't want to really experience much of the flight at all.

Who else has a fear or are unsettled by flying and what do you do?

Now all I need is something so I won't worry about my "kids" aka animals while we are gone... <_<

I have never flown before, but I want to and I also want to jump out of a plane and have the feeling of free falling before I open up the shoot! I am also afraid of heights if they are moving under my feet!

Just the words free falling in there made my stomach turn over.........

And yet you LOVE the Tom Petty song. Go figure.

Why do I have a feeling they are going to have to make an emergency landing because of one paranoid blonde passenger that has gone crazy on the plane? <_<

I kind of fear it, I fear the landing more than anything. What calms me a little is I have a friend who has been a flight attendant for Northwest for 15 years and she flys ALL THE TIME to Japan and such. If she can do it, I can do it! I can't sleep on a plane at all. Drinking is good, calms the nerves (have many). I know how you feel though.

I get vertigo now all the time. I can get it looking up at a antenna tower. Its mostly heights that give it to me. Flying, on the other hand, doesnt bother me at all. I can even look out the windows. I dont get any motion sickness. I never used to have a problem with vertigo either. Its just started these last few years. I believe it has to do with past problems with my ears.

The only about flying that bothers me is the way they treat you. Can you say "MOO"?

It's the anticipation of getting me on the plane that makes me sick, but once we're on it and in the air I just think happy thoughts like how much fun we're going to have on vacation!

The more you fly, the better it is!
I used to panic like everyone else - what if we crash, etc. Just don't think like that!
Think about how much fun you'll have in Vegas! It's awesome!
Bring a book on Vegas to get you excited, plus you'll have something to read the whole flight to keep your mind off flying.
I know a lot of people say I'll never fly, etc. but what a shame cause there's a whole beautiful world out there to see. But if you're that scared maybe your doc can prescribe something?

I never flew till like 7 years ago but it felt quite natural... I became an expert at it when traveling 100% for work for three years...

I spend the time sleeping, gazing out the window... realizing how small and miniscule you are is truly overwhelming up there when you pass over entire cities in seconds and can't even imagine all the people down there with their own stories...

Never liked drinking on the plane, who needs that added wooziness? hee hee...

A fear is only a fear as long as you let it be, you know? It's up to you to conquer it. And, it CAN be conquered! Just don't dwell too much on it...

yeah, that was a bunch of mumbo jumbo !!

Hope you work it out with yourself; Vegas is a site to behold... and is a HELL of a drive (I've done that too)

I've flown quite a bit and it doesn't bother me at all, but I've been doing it ever since I can remember. I take that back, I got a little freaked out on a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon the last time I was in Vegas, but planes don't bother me. Vegas is a GREAT place!!! Maybe talk to your doctor to see if there's something you can get for the anxiety. You know what they say, better living by chemistry.

As soon as I saw your name as the last poster in here, I just knew it would be about the Mile High Club.

Don't think I haven't thought of it too.

I fly on a weekly basis... And I used to be terrified of it. It's a control issue for me. Now I make sure to touch the outside of the plane as I enter through the jet-way. It's dumb and superstitious but it is my way of controlling the situation and it totally works. I'd be unemployed if it didn't.
Also, I tell myself that something like 90% of all air accidents happen in the first 60 seconds of flight, so if I get through them, I'm totally cool for the rest of the flight.
Good luck, it's not that bad, except for the previously mentioned cattle call...

if you like going fast, the acceleration at take off always makes me smile. it's fun, plus if you get a left window seat out to Vegas you get a better view of the Grand Canyon but the sun may be in your face. that probably depends on the route though. Although if you get right side your likely to get a really good view of the strip, which I hear is way-awesome-cool if you come in at night.

I've only flown a couple times in my 30 years and thats was in the past couple years. I like it so far except at 6' 1" the seats can be a little cramped if you are too much awake to relax good. bring your own headphones and you won't have to pay $2 to rent em if they show a movie...hmm.... its more the principal of the thing than the money.

Yeah flying is no big thing, it the ground I hate...and gravity...yeah stupid gravity...how do keep those thing up anyways....

I think about all those same worries, and then I think hey if its my time its my time. guess I dont mind a certain kinda risk ...hmmm...like people saying motorcycles are dangerous and telling me all their horror stories yet I still ride. Or what about a heart attack or a car crash or a plane crashing into my bedroom or getting shot from some crazed lunatic or getting my neck snapped from a stray hockey puck, all these thing are outta my control, yet they can happen.

I dont like to believe in statistics or anyone that likes to quote them they're only telling you about someone else's past not about what my/your future is going to be, I'd rather believe in fate or other higher powers. blah blah blah am I rambleing again....

Hi Boss! I could kick myself in the butt for not flying more often! Can you say 12-16-24 hour road trip???? When I leave I always say, "I can do it".......while driving I'm grumbling under my breath the whole way.

Last time I flew was to Cancun and I will admit, it was a long flight and I couldn't sit still or relax. Ended up drinking to sooth my nerves.....that has always worked for me.......just don't drink so much you make yourself ill.

Bring a book, magazine or something that makes you laugh when you read it......that will also help distract your thoughts.

Let's face it, you really don't want to be in a vehicle with Snow for how many hours there and back???? Fly! You'll be ok! We'll all bless your flight with our prayers

Now somebody talk me into flying out to California to see my 94 yr. old Gramma!!!
