Finally out of storage!

Finally got my boat out of storage. Have a few things to do on her now that will make her sea worthy again before I get her on the lake. Tomorrow I need to remove my steering rod out of the tilt tube to clean out some crud in the tube. I can hardly steer the boat and I know what I need to do to correct it. Started having a problem last fall when I put her to bed for the winter, but sprayed some penetrating oil in it, and was hoping the problem would go away!! LOL (It didn't).

Lights are not working on the trailer. I believe it is just a bad ground. Gotta get them things going. Gonna repack the wheel bearings on the trailer too before I get her on the road. The existing bearings should be in good shape, just need grease. Gonna change plugs in both motors tomorrow too.

My batteries held up great during the winter (inside storage) and did not even need a charge, but I put them on a trickle charge for two days just to make sure they were at full charge. The floor needs a good vaccuming and probably could use a scrubbing in spots, but that can wait until I go out and catch some of the perch from the Clinton River. I plan on getting out on Wed. or Thurs. morning. When I do get out, I will post a report, whether it is good or bad. Good luck to all this season.

I used some Lucas penetrating oil on it. Don't know how that compares to anything else, but it did not do anything for my steering. Got it repaired today. Was not as difficult as I thought it would be. Watched some videos on line and it looked pretty easy and it was actually easier than I thought. The rod was full of some old grease that was waxie like and not "slippery". Was really binding. Removed all of the old grease from the rod and inside the tilt tube and greased things back up before I put it all back together and I am all set now. Got my lights on the trailer going and cleaned the interior of the boat a little. Will be taking her out on Wed. or Thus. hopefully.

Glad you got her ready to roll.
Glad you did not use Blaster penetrating fluid on it. Blaster will swell rubber seals and further seize mechanisms up. It's a great penetrating fluid...just never spray it on anything contains rubber.
Also...next time you have the steering ass'y apart...try packing it with Sil Glyde brake grease. It's a great, long lasting, waterproof grease that won't harden or gum up over time.
Again...glad you got her up and running.

Thanks for the info. I did use a marine grease on it that states it will not harden, and it's good for wheel bearings too. I have bearing buddies on the trailer, but I like to remove all of the old grease and repack the bearings every other season on the bearings. that way, I get a good look at the condition of the bearings without just pumping grease into the bearing buddies every year. Single axle so it's only two bearings i have to clean and repack. On my old boat that was much bigger, i had electric brakes on the trailer, and the brakes were just covered with grease due to me pumping grease into the bearing buddies all the time!! I learned a lesson from that mistake. The trailer I have now has no brakes.
