Just a heads up for anyone with a truck. There has been a rash of stolen full size, spare truck tires. 5 people at my place of business and two others from different areas have all had their spares stolen within the past few weeks.

Bastages!!

Now I'm hoping my deductible is $250 and not $500. I don't remember off hand.

It's my understanding that there is some kind of chain and lock you can get for them. Still have to look into that after I get a new spare.

With my luck, now that I know it's gone............I'll probably get a flat on the way home today. <_<

FOR SALE:
Brand new spare tires for Ford, Dodge, and Chevy trucks. Tires still have the needles on em. Make offer. New arrivals coming daily.

Sorry I had to.
I had a chrome valve stem cap stolen one time and know how pissed I was so I can't imagine anything more expensive.

QUOTE(Capt'n Mike @ Apr 27 2004, 01:43 PM)Watch your tailgates, also! I heard there's been a rash of stolen tailgates in the Troy area, as of late.
yep I heard this on the news last night too.

just looked this up and thinking I might get one for the new to me '99 Z71 I just got. just do a search for tailgate locks.

Some one at took my tailgate off my Sonoma once, but it was just someone at work screwing with me, still I wasn't happy. My Sonoma came with a cable and lock from the dealer for the spare. The lock had a weather cover but still got rusty and a pain to work, buy a good qaulity lock! my spare is now locked too the bed hook cause the stupid little crank down cable thingy rusted and broke from too many dirt roads.

Yep, they sell those locks, but be sure to keep the lock cylinder lubricated, cause when you need to get the tire out off there and the lock is seized. That will suck. I saw that kind of stuff when I worked at the dealer.

People always get their full size spares stolen. The problem is that most people dont even realize that its gone till they need it.

The other thing is that the lock you guys are mentioning are for piece of mind and yes they do keep some from stealing them, but a professional is gonna get that off. Those locks are not failsafe. Trust me, when I was at the dealer. I had to bust off those locks and wheel locks too. Also slim Jim windows to get in customers cars on the lots when some one left the keys in.

Someone can always get what they need.

hmmm something else i just thought of. If you take the bolt out where the cable attaches to the bed and put a big heavy duty washer on it and then the cable back on and then put it back on the bed you wouldn't be able to disconnect the cable unless you had tools, thus defeating the purpose of an easy getaway for the theiving bastages. I'm gonna try this when I get home, wonder if the room is there to do it and will the gate still close.

Cause really how often do you actually remove your tailgate anyways?me? almost never. why not make it permanent.

Mine was taken two summer ago while fishing a tournament out of Harley. Got a buddy with a dealer to take one off a vehicle on his lot for me and he ordered a new one to replace his. Ended up the new one he ordered was a steel rim, while the one he gave me was a 17" matching aluminum one.

This one is now locked in place.

QUOTE(JABBERJAWZ @ Apr 27 2004, 02:53 PM)Get a set of cable cutters and cut the sucker.......quick gettaway. I wouldn'y bring in too much effort on a spare.
yes, valid points but the if guys truck/car/whatever next to yours is easier to snag for a crime of convienence then I figure in some cases a lock and cable might not be worth his time to cut thru and he'll grab the next easier one, I hope. but yeah if they want it bad enough they'll get it.

As far as the tailgates go I'm sure there only snagging ones with no locking modifications (which im sure 99% of 'em out there) that can be dropped down, flick the cables off, and then pull it, and go. If I can make it take them 20-30 seconds longer maybe they wont bother.

moral of the story drive a p.o.s.
