I was casting one last night and had a decent largemouth explode on it about 4 feet behind the boat, I got about 2 turns on the reel before it decided to take flight, right at my head. Lucky he missed, but yes fish do literally jump into my boat. I landed right next to me. Before I could grab the frisky bugger, he managed to throw the hook loose and land in the transom well. I picked him up, and sent him back to the water in just a few seconds. That had to be the easiest catch and release of the season.
