Well, it happened again today in our department.

Vince and 49 other hourly employees got an indefinate layoff notice starting Monday.

That's almost half of our workforce in design.

I also heard that 50% of the salary employees may be tapped on the shoulder, given a 6 month arena with pay and then sever their ties with GM...

I feel so sorry for Vince and the others. I just hope they can come back by the holidays...

Please say a prayer for all of my coworkers...

Design is hourly? What design group? Warren VEC?

I wonder what qualifies as exec. I remember 1.5 years ago there was a big "meeting" in florida with about 100 "execs" or whatever.

I know some people there. The hourly contract people are for the most part long gone.

I was just thinking GM is turning the corner after losing its debt.........

"Losing it's dept" ? Sorry comrade, that 50 Billion "loan" is due in 2015. Otherwise we all get to pay of it. Not that I don't want to see them survive - for the sake of all of us in MI and around the country.
Any loses from Powertrain HQ? I didn't hear anything today.
Sure is getting old hearing news like this.

Best wishes to all effected!

I would assume the gov will get the new equity stake in lieu of some or all of the debt. The new offering is supposed to take place next year. I'm not familiar with the terms, but if the debt is now higher......they will never make it... They didn't shed the pension sponsorship. You can't borrow your way to prosperity.

Now back to my question:

Was this over at Design staff? Their under VP Welburn. Warren VEC engineering groups are under what used to be Jim Queen, I don't remember the person who took over his role as he went "global".

The current employees are paying for the sins of the past.

Eddie Raybaud was the last to take the layoff yesterday.... The last of 50 people.. If that's the Eddie your talking about????
If it's Eddie Gittner, he retired last year with a buyout..
I will be out for sure on the water Friday by buoy R26 on the shipping channel. Saturday I am having gutters and gutter guards put on the house. Sunday is up in the air because they are talking rain again...

I'm going on 27 years and I am 14 on the senority list...

We are Die Engineering. We use to be under Mark Stevens. Now we are under Kurt Wiese, Michael Trevorrow & Matt Oliver. For years we were located at the Tech Center in the main headquarters engineering building next to the pond. Then we split up into BOC & CPC. Thats when the adventure started for us in moving around. We went out to Auburn Hills, then to Pontiac, then to Troy. Back to Pontiac in the Center Campus Building and now they have moved us to a plant in Flint up on the thrid floor in Engineering... Only a 140 mile a day round trip for me to drive to keep my job. Maybe next year they'll move us back to the Tech Center. Yeah right...

Only one Little Eddie... ya Raybaud... "to take" sounds like he volunteered. was that the case? or was it forced? last time I was there it was 90 days off with 95% PAY.... Not too shabby.
Yeah, I feel like getting a shirt to wear with a bull's eye on my back. It will be a whole year of going through these layoffs wondering if I will make the next one or not. One of two things are going to happen, either I am broomed and pull up roots and leave Michigan or I keep this job and keep plugging along. We shall see after the next wave October 1st.

It was forced...
Well. Good luck to ya guys. Piece mail is bad for morale. They should have made one big axe cut in 2003, then we would be over this. I hope bankruptcy ends this madness....... Should be over soon..

They are saying this will be three to four months, but who knows. I will miss seeing Rich every morning, but I have to look at the bright side and know that I will now wake up to my sons smiling face.

Take care of yourself and your health.

You know what I'm talking about and see you soon Vince....

P.S. Tell your Mrs. that I am trying to find some pictures to send her. I deleted them all off on my home computer and placed them on a disk. Now I can't find the disk. I have the pictures at the office when I get there Monday.....
