I currently drive a 94 GMC half-ton, its been a good truck but it's starting to nickel and dime me. I quailify for the cash for clunkers but I haven't been to a dealer in awhile. Due to a divorce (i hate the bi#*h) anyway she ruined my credit, I have like a a 580 credit score which is embarressing but don't judge me, should I not even waste my time going to a dealer with that kind of credit?

Just to let you know (maybe you do) that you get 4500 if you buy something with 5mpg combined more. 2-4 better and you get 3500. Anything less you get zilch. It might be tough going from a truck to a truck and getting anything for it depending on the ratings.

I've heard that some Dodge dealers are matching the Cash For Clunkers $s. The guy I heard it from was a Chrysler employee, so it may be an employee only deal, but check it out. 9K off is a good chunk of change.

I thought, and this was only what I heard, that Chrysler is offering $4500 regardless. If you get cash for clunkers, you get $4500 MORE, for a total of $9000 off. Is this true?!

That's the way I heard the story. But remember I don't believe anything I hear and only half the stuff I actually see, so take it for what it's worth. Oh and I'm not looking for any more vehicles

For the right price, I wouldn't mind a new ram. But I'd prefer that F150 Raptor. I suppose that just about any car that Chrysler makes, i'd prefer the Ford equivalent, though. Ford has come a long way with their new designs, and Benz really screwed Chrysler.

Problem with cash for clunkers is that you need to have an '86 or newer vehicle that gets 18 mpg or less and is worth less than $3500 or $4500 depending on your situation. And you have to want to buy a new car. Old escort burning oil? Sorry, you don't qualify. Crown vic with a bad head gasket? Sorry, you're out. Old '70's Cordoba that gets 2 mpg and burns as much oil as gas? You're SOL. 4 cylinder minivan rusted to hell? You don't get it either.

Oh yeah... and you have to have owned the car for a year to qualify. And they don't count oil consumption when they figure your fuel economy.

I have a feeling that a LOT of the people trying to take advantage of this deal are going to be stymied by all the restrictions.

Well I supported American workers (along with some other countries) and bought a 09 Ram. I got $5500 in rebates. Didn't have a clunker to turn in to use the new program. I like the truck so far and it really came down to the F150 and Ram. They both had pro's and con's - but I was able to get a better price on the Ram.

Go Ford! You can't beat the new F Series truck they build. I've got a 2001 Ford truck with 170,000 miles on it, no problems other than general maintenance. No government strings either!!

I think Ford has great designs, but i personally don't buy cars with little motors, and both Chrysler and GM have better V8's than Ford. Fords 3.5L V6 is supposed to be great, but their mod motors just don't stand up to the Hemi, which in turn doesn't stack up to the LSx motors. That's the only thing that would keep me from buying a new Ford truck. If I could get an F150 with a 6.1 Hemi or a 6.0 LS2, i'd be figuring out how to pay for it right now. Ford is supposedly coming out with a 400 hp 6.2L version of the mod motor later this year (at least I think it's a mod motor) and that should put them back in the game. That is, unless Chrysler or GM step up their game again, which I think is doubtful in the current political climate.

That new Ram has what, 390 hp? That's a nice fat stack of horsepowers, right there. And that 6.0L LS2 has 400 hp...

Friend of mine bought a Ram a few months back. He said he walked into a Ford dealer, a GM dealer, and a Dodge dealer, and he didn't get sh*t for service at the Ford or Chevy dealer, so he bought the Dodge. Said he got it for like 15k off MSRP or something just rediculous. Current plan is to ride out to Bonneville with him next week, so I should get a good idea how it runs with a 30' enclosed car trailer out back.
