I'm going for our industry's big annual convention for a week. I got a ton of suggestions from people of where to go and what to do, but none really sound that great. Honestly, I'm a horrible gambler so I won't spend too much time at the tables. Any good shows out there? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

TI (Treasure Island)
At night there is an outdoor show with a large boat battle and a sinking full size ship in the lagoon in front of the TI. There are three shows nightly. Although I haven't seen the new show it is usually pretty entertaining. Go ½ hour early to get a good spot. The sidewalks really pack in tight with hundreds of people to see the show.

Mirage
At night in front of the Mirage every 30 minutes or so there is a volcanic eruption that is very cool to watch. You want to be pretty close to the action to really check it out. Not usually a big crowd so easy to see. Inside they have the Sigfreid and Roy white tigers on display and a mammoth fish tank behind the registration desk. Cool interior with a jungle setting inside. Definitely, worth a walkthrough.

Bellagio
This is currently the nicest hotel on the strip. Steve Wynn is building a new one that will be the most lavish but for now the Bellagio takes the cake. Free show out front of the Bellagio is the Water fountains. They run at night every thirty minutes or so and it is one of the greatest things to see live in all of Vegas. It is really quite a spectacle. One really must walk through the Bellagio to appreciate it. Check out the lobby, fresh flowers behind the registration desk every day in the thousands of dollars category. The mosaic tile floor in the lobby is amazing along with the hand blown glass flowers on the ceiling. Off the lobby is the garden. Definitely, walk through the garden. It is a trip. It's just beautiful.

Venetian
A slice of Venice Italy. This is one of the nicest hotels on the strip. It has the largest rooms and is beautiful. The mall in here is awesome, it is a street from Venice complete with the singing gondolas. Go for a ride… The wax Museum is here if you are into that.

Caesars'
What can I say here. The Forum shops are cool (another cool mall). The architecture is awesome. They are in the process of re-modeling a bit. Worth a look. Not one of my favorites though.

Paris
Definitely, a must visit. The streets of Paris are depicted here. A full sized Eiffel Tower that you can ascend is also here. Awesome time.

New York, New York
Inside is a fairly accurate depiction of New York and Central Park. Steaming manhole covers, graffiti, city streets, delis, fun stuff. Very cool to see. There is also a roller coaster running through the joint (not a bad one either).

RIO
This hotel is just off the strip and has the whole Brazil Carnival theme. This is very cool and is one of the sexiest hotels in vegas. The coolest thing I have found here is the bar/night club on the roof. Rio is the tallest hotel in vegas and the VOODOO Lounge is on the 50th floor. You can go outside have a drink and the view is unparalleled there is like a $10 cover.
Downtown
Ok, this is where you are. This is not a whole lot to do except at night. I usually spend about 6 hours of every trip down here. The gambling is cheaper and better, and they have one of my favorite restaurants in Vegas. They put a roof over the old strip and turned it into more of a mall environment. Kinda cool and definitely still the old cheesy vegas sin city feel to it. At night they do a light show on the inside of the roof. Kinda cool.

Options at a Cost

Ok, I haven't been to many shows in Vegas. I have seen the two Cirque shows that are there. Mistere and "O". Mistere is at the TI and is really quite good. Tickets are like $75. "O" is at the Bellagio and is the water show version of Cirque. "O" is one of the most amazing show I have ever seen. Tickets are like $100-$125 each. Plus they sell out way in advance. If you want to do either of these shows I recommend you book now.
Helicopter rides to the Hoover Dam and to the Grand Canyon. They fly the strip on the way back. I heard this is just awesome. A must do for me next time.

Long Post but hey you asked...

Its shut down right now. They are supposedly completely redoing it. The ships are out there, but no show.

Also, the volcano at the Mirage is every 15 minutes after dark.

Also, the fountains at the Bellagio run every 30 minutes, day or night.

If you're looking for cheap or even free entertainment, other than all that is mentioned above, Fremont Street is cool to see with the big overhead light show and all the old casinos like The Golden Nugget and such.

Just play quarter or nickel slot machines. That's how I won what I did when I was there.

Rio has the overhead carnival parade that goes right over the casino. They also have bartenders there with all the bottle spinning and fancy pouring.

New York, New York has a Coyote Ugly.

You MUST visit the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Even if you don't gamble, it, and the Cafe are like a rock and roll museum.

There's always Margaritaville!!

The M&Ms Store is really neat! 4 stories and a free 3-D movie at the top floor.

If you are not afraid of heights, the Stratosphere has the BEST view of the strip. About 112 floors up (about 1000 feet). Be sure to ride the Big Shot up there:

Wow, you guys know your Vegas!!! Snowmaker is one of the folks who already clued me into a few things (nice pics by the way!). Thanks CK and Yo Eleven (not too long of a post, VERY informative).

I'm printing this thread out and taking it with me. Obviously I'm on a limited budget
And I WILL be working
but I've been told that "working" involves most of our vendors inviting us to cocktail receptions and a wax museum "thing" with one of them
; so it shouldn't be too bad. I'm just hoping I have enough time to get out and check some of this stuff out.

I'm staying at Paris, so I'll definitely see that. I wouldn't mind seeing the overhead tv thingy out on the streets and the free shows out front of those casino/hotels look cool!! Bellagio sounds really cool, as well as the Venetian!

We're having dinner Monday night at Hugo's from what I've been told. Anyone familiar with it? Supposed to be some of the best prime rib in Vegas.

MARGARITAVILLE?!?!?!

Also, I'm a HUGE Frank Sinatra fan. Anything WORTHWHILE featuring stuff about him?

Any tips for blackjack? I'm no gambler, but I'm gonna try blackjack for the first time I think.

Thanks guys!

Hopefully you don't have to pay for the wax museum. I've heard its not worth the $18-20. They dragged this guy out just to promote it:

Hard Rock Cafe has a cool, sort of secluded booth with a bunch of Rat Pack memoribilia hanging around it such as suits and stuff.

YES, MARGARITAVILLE!!!! Big gift shop there.

Did you see my pic thread?

Oh, and don't forget to collect a bunch of the prostitute flyers and cards they hand out on the street. You can trade them with friends like baseball cards.

Vegas was COOL! I wish I didn't have to work so much during it. I lost my a$$ at blackjack!!
But I had a blast!

I got a whole bag full of "trading" cards for a guy here at work!! Hilarious!!

We skipped the wax museum shindig with our supplier, but now I wish we wouldn't have!

I wish I could have got some better pics too. Too much working, not enough playing!

Oh yeah, and we have these little knife giveaways for our customers with our name and logo and stuff on them. Well my boss forgot to empty them from his carry on and went through the security at Vegas' airport with like 15 knives in his bag!

"Um, sir is this your bag? Can you please step over here?"

I thought he was going to jail for sure!!!!
