I got my gas bill yesterday and with all the increases Pandora keeps giving us for his new boat, I about flipped.
So after all these years in this house I figured it was time to do something about it. I was going to buy granite countertops
but figured I would save energy instead. It was WAY cheaper than I thought it would be. I bought 45 bags of blow in cellulose which will add R22 to my existing R19 for a total of R41. How much you ask? For enough to do about 1700 sq. ft. $236. plus tax. Pretty f'n cheap I thought. I also thought why didn't I do this years ago? Home Depot gives you the blower machine for FREE if you buy 15 bags or more.

Can't believe you only had an R19 in your attic. Is the original insulation cellulose or fiberglass?

$236 plus free rental for the machine is great. I never would have thunk it. Now if you could get your granite countertops from Home Depot for that cheap.

yeah mine was a 150 bucks this month for 1400 sq ft.

but then agian I've had a pack of insulation sittin round for 3 yrs. Shoulda boutght the blow instuff too but was spendin cheap at the time I bought it, plus got laid off and other things got in the way. Problem is I've gotta get the critters out of my attic first, been to lazy to go up and deal with 'em. Rats or bats not sure, they skitter all over between the drywall and old insulation, and there feces is all over, yuck!

Yeah, when I built the house in '84 I didn't plan on staying too long. But after buying my first boat in '87
well.....you know the rest.

I never figured it would be that cheap either, thats why I posted it with the cost of natural gas going up so much (hell propane too) its worth it.

Had to throw in the granite countertops comment.

That's all I have in mine and house was built in 91 I thought R19 was good actually. If thing is as easy as hammer says it is to use, think ill do mine too. figure will test it out on his house first, case we mess up. Then when I do mine ill know what to and not to do.. If he falls though the ceiling part way ill call everyone and take a pic and post it... lol
