Sad stories are always a downer but they also help us be grateful for the good times and appreciate what we have.
Although I have many to choose from like the time my apartment was robbed a week before Xmas, I will convey xmas 2001.
In the middle of that Dec. I was having trouble with my lower right leg. Doctor said I had SVT's(Superfical Vein Throbosis)-clotting of the outer veins. I get a Ultrsound. Doctor takes blood, tells me to take Motrin and stay off my feet. So I rest. a week later, it gets worse-the blood work came back and I am a Factor 5, meaning my bood clots 20X more than average. At this point the doctor was supposed to put me on blood thinners but didnt, just increased the motrin. I rest, I am scheduled for a follow up Ultrsound on Xmas eve at 10am. I get up a 6am to do last minute shopping while the stores are quiet, go limping around the malls and stores, get my last minute stuff done head for Beumont for the scan. when I get scaned the Med Tech goes "ut oh" gets another person in there and they start making arrangement to send me to emergency. So i ask "whats going on" and they tell me that my whole lower leg DVT (Deep Vein Trombosis) and just tell me its a serious condition. I told them I feel fine, Ijust came from the mall shopping, and they both gasped. I was taken to emergency right to the back without stopping. Doctor said I had to be admited. I refused. who wants to spend Xmas in the hospital. Now I hear whats going on, a blood clot can come loose and kill you. Fast. I explain to the Doc, this is my moms last Xmas, she is dying of cancer, and I want to be there. There is a new home tratment for this but I have to sign a waver in case I drop dead, and I have learn how and to show that I can give myself a shot twice a day or 2 weeks.
I sign the paper, jab myself with the needle in front of the nurse, and go home where some family are waiting to set me up in my living room. I missed xmas with the family but they visited during the recoup. I couldt leave my couch except to hit the john, and I used my computer chair to roll in and out of there.
