I don't think so. Maybe I should not be so negative about the sity but I think it's a total joke. I do go down there quite often to enjoy the night life but overall I think it's a dump. What's going to happen when the world is watching us on the super bowl. Detriot doesn't have any real shopping or things to do other than eat, drink, gamble & take in a sporting event.

One thing that made me think about this is my good friend and member here The Boug was amlost mugged on Friday night downtown after leaving a club. He did what your not suppose to do and fought back and ended up getting away but could you imagine if that that type of stuff happens during the Super Bowl in "06"

i'm HOPING the city and committee who will be preparing everything will sincerely motivate people into pitching in and helping to make it great. i read thru all the superbowl articles in saturday's paper, and got some contact names and i'd like to be involved somehow. (still unsure...)

anyways, yes, i agree with you rerun that there is a stigma on the city that may be unavoidable no matter what is done to improve it. i hear (only hearsay) that they're going to try to bring in some better shopping to the ren cen, but come on... what's THAT going to do?

i think a lot of focus for visitors may be directed to some suburb events, since they're predicting a two week pre-superbowl festive period.

Maybe you should be asking "is the Super Bowl ready for the city?"
Too bad Coleman's not around for additional comic relief.

You do know with all the new players the Lion's are getting, they will be in the Super Bowl when it comes to Detroit!

I love going downtown. It used to be somewhere I would go all the time, even alone to meet friends....but when your step dad is a Wayne County Sheriff down in the jail and starts telling you all the stories all the time that you don't hear on the news, like the shootout in front of Greektown casino a week or so ago...it makes me reconsider....

I hope they can make it work, but it is going to take like 10 years or more even if done properly..
So, no I don't think Detroit is ready.

I have a police scanner and I listen to the Detroit Precinct's freq. alot. Pretty scary to say the least.

Is the city ready, no. Will they be ready? Yes as ready as we can be.

This will not be a New Orleans Super Bowl and everyone involved knows about that. Next year in Jacksonville is going to be pretty bad too, except they have a chance for some decent weather.

The city and burbs will be alive with parties everywhere. The shopping will be handled by the burbs and the nightlife will be shared. The biggest problem is going to be getting from one place to the next w/o public mass transit (other than the Mugger Mover)

I think Mike Illitch has done a hellofa lot of good for the big "D" and I"m always noticing improvements when I do go there. Maybe he's got something up his sleeve for the Super Bowl. I give him a LOT of credit for investing so much money into the city.......

Question is: Will the BRB be taking a road trip downtown for Superbowl Sunday?

I feel the same way about the Illitch's and the Ford's..without them, nothing would be going on down there!

Oh! I plan to go to the superbowl here in Detroit! Only live once, gotta go to 1 superbowl in a lifetime!

With the money he has spent on the Tigers (FINALLY!)....I doubt it.

I think the worst part about downtown is all the boarded up shops. You can't go anywhere without seeing them. Makes you think you’re in a war zone. I guess it just hurts me cause I call Detroit my home and it's embarrassing excuse for a downtown. I wish it were nicer. Once everyone from around the country gets here and see’s it first hand I could only imagine the things they’d tell their friend when they go back home. I've always wanted to live in a downtown area. But R.O. is too expensive and Mt Clemens isn't a good investment right now IMO.

Rerun, I know that from experience, when I ifrst moved here. Back in NH, I was 90 miles from downtown Boston. 90 minutes, depending on traffic. I used to go to all manner of sporting events, mostly because of the great time before/after the game that was to be had in the City.

Not here. Except for the few blocks that make up Greektown, what else is there? Hockeytown Cafe? The Town Pump? I fear that the Super Bowl will be a disaster because there are no hotels/restaurants/bars to accomodate everyone. Think about it. How many people will be here form outa town? 40K? 50K? More? Where are all the hotel rooms for these people?

I hear you and it seems like the Mayor is just worried about the Cadilac hotel being done.....I guess were just going to air lift everyone straight to the hotel. That way noone will have to ride thru the runes that is Detriot
