quick question -

the 454 is out of our liberator and in the process of being torn down. the shop it is at said that we will probably need either a new long block or short block. they suggested that maybe that we should replace it w/ a 496 or 502. the thing is, we have a king cobra outdrive. is it possible to get either a 502 or 496 to go w/ that? or would the out drive need to be replaced by a merc? any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated! also, what would the cost be for a 496/502?

All big block chevy's share the same bolt pattern for mounting and your flywheel spline will accept the drive shaft. Don't guarantee it holding up though to the h.p.

I would guess somewhere around 6-8 thousand for a refreshed 502. 496, best price I found was around 9 grand for one out of a demo boat. I would stick with the 454 and take all your old accessories, heads, etc and throw those on a new block.
