Lake St. Clair Walleye Association (LSCWA) Annual Kid's Ice Fishing Outing

When: Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, 8am - 2pm.

Where: Jigger's Bar and Grill, 8367 Dixie Hwy., Fair Haven, (1/2 mile from the Fair Haven DNR Access Site)

LSCWA will provide rides from Jigger's to the fishing site, drilled holes and some heated shanties to warm up in. Fishing poles, tackle and bait will be on hand for those kids who don't have their own.
The on-shore warm-up spot will be in the pavillion behind Jigger's where hot dogs, chili, chips, hot chocolate and coffee will be served.

LSCWA will also provide ice fishing instructions for those new to the sport. No registration is necessary so just show up and start fishin'.

Feb. 14 - 15 is Michigan's Winter Free Fishing Weekend so fishing licenses aren't needed to fish those days.

Looking forward to it. Not sure if my daughter and I will be fishing there, but we will definitely head on over when we're done fishing.

Any chance on getting a "LSCN" table reserved?

last time I fished that area, we were out before Jiggers was open and there were no cars in the parking lot. I assumed they didn't allow you to park there so we went to the dnr launch and parked there. Any one know if we are allowed to park at Jiggers the day of the kids ice fishing outing before they open or before the tournament gets started? I like to get my line in the water by 7:00 or sometimes even earlier if I can get my arse out of bed.

I don't think there's any problem showing up early but I'll check and try to get back to you. The Walleye Association should be there setting up around that time. Parking at Jigger's for the outing is OK.

This sounds like great family fun!

I would like to post this event on my news site Harsens Island News. Fair Haven is very close & I think many Island children would love it.

Here's a link to a map of where it is: MapQuest

I have a few questions before I post this item. PWood are you out there?

What is the cost to participate? Looks like it is free.
If kids don't have fishing gear, bait etc. is there a cost to use LSCWA's gear & bait?

Is the DNR on the E or W side of Jigger's?

Can any age participate?

LSCWA or Jigger's selling the refreshments?

Or....I could call the LSCWA to find this out, but it's kinda early right now.

No cost to participate.
No cost for use of tackle or bait if the kids don't have their own. Most kid's like to use their own gear if they have it.
The DNR access site is east of Jigger's by about 1/2 mile.
The outing is for kid's 16 & younger.
LSCWA is supplying the hot dogs, chips, chili, hot chocolate and coffee for free for the kid's and their families, but I don't think they'd turn away any donations offered to help cover the cost. Anything else in the way of food or refreshments would have to be purchased at Jigger's.
Great family fun? Absolutely!

Yes, thanks melon, post it by all means.

Just checked with the Weather Channel for tomorrows forcast.

http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/...our=6&begDay=46

Temperatures start out at 6 degrees at 8am and work their way up to a balmy 13 degrees by 2pm.
Winds will range from 6 - 8 mph.
Wind chills will range from -5 (8am) thru 2 (2pm).

Compared to last years outing (-10 thru -20 wind chills all day), this will seem like springtime.

Everyone still had a great time and I don't think this year will be any different. Just throw an extra layer on and the fishing will keep you warm.
Don't forget the ice cleats. Slip-and-fall accidents are always at a peak this time of year. Many areas are like a sheet of glass out there.

You say that most will have heated shanties out there though. I know that I'll be bringing mine. Most of the time I fish in just a t-shirt and jeans once I get the heater cranked.
Just remind your kids that half the fun of fishing is the adventure of the trip. I can fondly look back at some of the crazy things I've done to catch fish.
