Hello all fishing buddies. This is your old friend Cory with the DNR fisheries division. Fishing has been moderate to good in places, but there are still fish to be caught.
Yellow perch, which has been the main target this past week, have been productive mainly around the channel. Bouys 26, 27, and around the St. Clair light have been the best areas. Also east of the St. Clair light appr. 1 mile, but still on the American side there has been some fish caught there. Straight out from the Grosse Pointe yacht club and the 9 mile tower. All these areas have depths that vary from 12 to 16 feet. Many boats are using perch rigs with 1 inch minnows on them. Emerald shinners and spottails are most commonly used with best results. Some perch have also been caught off of the 400 club in appr. 12 feet of water.
Walleye, are very spotty right now, but some have been caught. Most walleye are being caught in the north and middle channels, south of the dumping grounds at the mouth of the Detroit River, and out from the 400 club. Most boats are trolling and drifting with crawler harnesses. Depths are ranging from 12-22 feet. The deeper depths are in the channels and at the mouth of the Detroit River. Here you want to make sure that you are at least 3/4 of of the way down. Colors have been a hammered brass and white with red dots.
Smallmouth bass and largemouth bass have been caught in the Middle channel and Big Muscamoot Bay along the north shore. Tube jigs and spinner baits have been used the most. Other areas include the mile roads from 13 mile down to 8 mile the Grosse Pointe yacht club. Here spinner baits have been most popular.
Northern pike and Muskie have not been very productive on the American side in the past week. All fish have been caught on the Canadian side.
Some sunfish have been caught off the 400 club in about 10-12 feet of water.
Thanks for all of you information and I appreciate everyones cooperation. I will see you at the launches. Cory

Thanks for the report, Cory!

Last week we were out in the NE corner of the dumping grounds and the perch were slower than they had been in the previous weeks. You have to stay in close to but not directly in the larger weed clumps. I picked up 2 nice eater walleye and the usual smallmouth and sheephead along with a dozen perch in the 8" to 12" class.
Have you had many reports from directly out from Miller Marina and the Nautical Mile? The perch should be on their way to that area soon!

Here perchy, perchy perchy...
