I just saw on their website that the Lakeside store in Farmington is closing. Rats. That`s my fav store in the area. They are having a 25% off sale starting mon 2-2. Looks like I`ll hafta stop a few times at the Jefferson store on my way home from the pond.

I stopped in yesterday them guys are hot they said the reason the reason for closing was to many uppity people in the area, and they need to get back down to earth to get prices down. And this is the time of the year to have sales and discounts they never have sales. I guess it's hard to beat the big sporting stores.

That's too bad - I'll miss them. I like to go there occasionally at lunch time and I have bought quite a few lures there, many out of the discount bins, though. I was amazed they could keep a big store like that going in an area like Grand River and Drake - I just didn't know there were that many fishermen there. Now some may say that store isn't all that big, but for just a fishing store, it is.

I don't know if it's big stores that make the business so tough or how many outlets there are for common fishing items. In other words, I don't know that Dick's, Dunham's, or Bass pro Shops is what kills the small guys or if it's the KMart, Walmart, Meijers stores that take away the bread and butter. I even saw a pretty good ice auger at Lowes for 35 bucks the other day! Whatever the case, we all need to throw some business to the little guys if we like them. I know I like the little Blue Water Bait & Tackle near the Fair Haven launch site so I spend some money there on items I know I could buy cheaper elsewhere, since I know they can't make it just on worms and minnows.

Again, I'll miss that Farmington Lakeside store. Good luck to the fellows who work there.

I was at the sale yesterday and dropped $120 on all sorts of stuff. It`s 25% off everything in the store and the only thing they moved out was the ice augers. Everything else stayed. I talked to Capt Dan, (the owner), and he said the lease is up the end of february and the sale lasts till then. I`m going back on payday. LOL. They`re closing cause they are losing money staying open. "The economy is killing us", according to Dan. The store on Jefferson will remain open.

Such a shame. I guess my trips over there weren't enough to help. Nice folks to talk with, nice shop to root around, lots of "local" baits and tackle as opposed to the more generic stuff you find at the big chains. And something for every style of fishing - casting, trolling, whatever you do from fishing from the bank to fishing from big boats. Ditto on the hope that all the employees find good work around town. Those of us on the west side will miss 'em.

I feel bad for Ronnie and Dan. Lets get one thing straight. Not sure if everyone read the thread correctly. They have two locations one way out in nowhereville is closing but the one at 10 n Jefferson is still open. I used to work there a while back. You learn alot about fishing working in the bait shop.

Dan and Ronnie are great people I have nothing but good things to say about them. Been fishing with Dan many times, hes a pool of knowledge and alot of fun.

They also have the best Muskie lures around, as well as the best variety.
