Last night's pon pon call

Did anyone here the pon pon call last night about a life jacket or something floating in the water? The chopper was flying over the bay for a good while but I went back to the dock and headed home before it was resolved I guess.

What's a pon pon?

So because a life jacket likely blew out of a boat, they assume someone may have drowned?

If someone was in fact wearing it, they obviously were not wearing it correctly or they'd still be in it.
What time??

Snow - if only you owned a boat....

Ah, so someone may have gone overboard and was thrown a life jacket that they never get.

We sometimes hear Sécurité (Secur-i-tay) calls too.
Scanner audio archive can be found here:
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?feedId=1035
Distress signal = MAYDAY (SOS)
Urgency signal = PAN PAN (XXX)
Safety signal = SECURITE (TTT)
No but I heard one out of Sarnia but really couldn't make out where some people were taking on water. It sounded like Lake Erie but couldn't understand why they were taking the call....

I wonder if it only counts if you say it with a French accent

You have to use the accent when asking for Grey pan-pan.

LOL I know it's PAN PAN, but it SOUNDS like PON PON so I spelled it that way thinking more people would understand what I was talking about. We have a lot of blowboaters on this site

The online scanner is also on RadioReference/ScanAmerica. If you click that link you'll find archives. The cool thing about that is if you are out and see or hear something note the time. When you get in you can check those archives for the exact time and see what's up.

If it is interesting and I miss it send me a PM and I'll isolate it and put it up.

You can also go to the scanner page and scroll down for recordings that I clean up and edit. I don't always post here if there is a new edition so check once in a while for updates.

For you internet geeks there is an RSS feed for my recordings if you are interested PM me.

Yesterday there was an overdue vessel on Lake Erie that they searched for for several hours. They ended up finding the boat safe.

There was also a vessel in distress around the Blue water bridge that I don't think they found.
