I recently picked up a Catalina 27 and have it moored just south of metro beach. Looking for suggestions on overnight cruise destinations - would prefer to anchor as opposed to Marinas. Its been a while since I sailed St. Clair on a bigger boat - so thinking of spots not to far away, the boat draws about 4 feet.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Can't offer any first-hand advice, but I seem to recall some sailors anchoring in Mitchells Bay on the CA side. Less night traffic than the US side, but now you would have to deal with the border issues once you anchor in their waters.
You might try contacting the Catalina owners group based somewhere on the Clinton River. They organize trips to the CA marinas (thames, belle river, etc.) as well as other lake areas. Maybe they might know of some other possibilities about anchoring.

Best of Luck.

Derek,
Gull Island may work out. You will have to stay off the sand flat with your draft but that is not that far off the beach.

Mitchells Bay is to shallow to get in close to be sheltered and Gull Island is the same and open to unexpected winds. I would suggest going into one of the many deep channels in the St Clair Flats. The Syne Bora , Middle Channel, the Bassett are some that come to mind. The Bassett is in Canada so you will need proper documentation but, the Syne is only about two hours from Metro.

Our first boat was C27, great memories of that boat!! Very dependable, comfortable and a great ride....

We have anchored in Fords Cove as well as the west shore of Seaway Island, haven't been back to either in a few years so I have no idea what the depth is like, but both were pretty fun!

Here's some C27 links you may enjoy

And assuming you have the Atomic 4 here's some good sites

We'll be heading to the "lagoon" or "round Lake" across from Metro Saturday night, then take the dinghy thru metro and the neighborhood on sunday. Looks like low wind and very warm this weekend. Time for some swim and just playin around.

hi there,
we just visited Keans in the Detroit River, $1 a foot for the night, a nice pool, 7 ft depth, walk to Sinbad's restuarant. about a 5-6 hr. sail from Metro. give it a try.
