I put an 82 lb Excel on my boat today, replacing the 10 year old 45 lb. I can't get the motor to do anything. It won't turn the motor or spin the shaft. It has power, as it lights up, but won't do anything. It is a 24 volt, but only has one red wire going to the plug (which it came without and I had to wire, but the old one had 2 hot wires). No matter which (12 V or 24 V) spot I wire the red one to, nothing changes. My voltmeter is telling me that I have over 26 volts, but nothing. It is Pinpoint ready, but I haven't plugged in a fishfinder to it. Would this make it do that? The pedal moves without any resistance, but the motor does not turn. I find no on/off switch, and am totally stumped. Can anyone help?

Not having the Pinpoint hooked up should not cause a problem. I have a 36v Excel and don't have it hooked to a Pinpoint unit.

The 26v you're reading, is that at the plug?

Was your old motor a 12v? Are your cables connected correctly at the battery (check the battery hook-up diagram in the owners manual). Do you have the trolling motor down when your trying to get it to spin? It won't spin in the stored position. I assume "yes" to all of these, but they are the only things I can think of.
