Well there is a general question. I can tell you that this year i had more hits and hookups casting for musky with 16lb mono. That being said i also lost more fish. What we really need is a no stretch mono with the diameter and strength of braid. I will probably be stringing all my reels except for my jerkbait rod next year with mono.

There will be disagreement about this but i don't care. lol
I'm a fireline freak, been using it sence you could buy it.
I say it's your skill level on how to use it. Advantages are near zero stretch, means instant hook-up. See you have to set your drag just a bit now that's a bit looser to compensate for no stretch so you don't rip the hooks out. Also you have to know when to go with the fish on surges. Mono to me is like fishing with rubber bands. The stretch just takes away the feel of the fish and other things. Fireline dia. is very thin. It's so strong. I think try different lines and see what's best for you.

I'm just hooked on fireline like Al Bundy is with his Dodge

h2o<----says, use fireline and get fast hook ups and learn the drag setting with it to compensate for no stretch.

Gregg I have been a Mono user for years but this last season made me realize that because the fish are getting so much heavier per their lenght I just can't get the hook sets with the Mono. I think H2o has to try a couple of the other braids. Fire line is good but I think Strens Super Braid is better. For one thing it cast a lot further than Firt line. It is a harder finish so it goes thru the guides better. There is one thing that I am positive of and that is you have Many More hits using Mono. The lures work better on Mono and this is my two cents worth. I figure that the ratio is ten to one over Braid. So Happy New Year all. Get the monster of your live no matter what line you are using. Desi It depends on the type of line you are using. If you use a heavy weight line you have to go to one of the super braids. I'm using Strens super braid in the 36 lb. test. I like Gregg M. use 16 pound trilene XL mono. You line is very important in lure action. Bob
